| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Anything new from Verizon on the horizon? I have a Treo 700w that I bought the week it came out. That was two years and many pavement drops ago, and the phone is looking a little road weary. Verizon reminds me constantly that my "new every two" deal is here--but can't tell me what would be better than my current solution. (Though they have offered me some lovely Crackberries.) I'd like to stay with the WM platform: I'm used to it and I do use the MS applications. Has anybody heard about the new stuff that's supposed to be coming out for Verizon? And is there any kind of time frame attached? Thanks! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | One has to assume that there is a new WM CDMA device coming, but it is likely that when it does come out, Verizon will be the last to get it.

![]() ![]() ![]() | There has been talk of an 800w device. But who knows when it will come out and who will get it first. My luck has always been to buy a device only to have a better product come out within weeks of my purchase. |

![]() | verizon just got the 755p so I don't forsee them getting anything soon, although you never know when they might port over the 750w. give verizon a bit of time since they do seem to be slow in getting palm devices. |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Can't wait any more... Sadly, I think this will be my last post. I really hope that the Palm product managers (whom I've long suspected of at least lurking, if not moderating, these posts) are reading. Until last month, I was a loyal Treo user. As I mentioned, I literally bought the 700w like the day it came out. LOVED it. However, there were certain "little things" that annoyed me, like Bluetooth pairing problems... having to reboot at least 2-3 times a week... minor annoyances, really, but they add up over time. But by far, the biggest problem is that my... phone... was... OLD--and there's nothing new to replace it. I've been patient. Verizon has been promising me a "new phone" for at least the last 22 months. (Yes, I called tech support to see what was up.) I dropped my poor Treo again and again--and the final drop did some major damage. Still worked, mind you--but geez. Sound quality was terrible after all of those drops; nothing fit "quite right" anymore--and it was time for retirement. You'd think that upgrading a phone wouldn't be such a big deal. I mean, how many phones has RIM produced in that time? Oh wait. It IS a big deal if you want a Treo on WM. Yes, I could've used my "new every two" for a discount on a 700w "X"--but who among us wants to pay EVEN MORE for three-year-old technology? (Treo was around $549 when it was intro'd--I upgraded to a first-time PDA and paid I think $200--even with my discount, the new wx was still going to cost me about $280-300.) It was too much to bear. Then my friend loaned me her Blackberry Worldphone. My Treo was out of juice--it happens when phone and battery are senior citizens--and I thought, "Hmmm... Sound quality is really good on this thing. So light and sleek..." I asked her about the speed of the apps--long a problem on my Treo--and she demonstrated how great it was by booking a rental car in less than about five minutes. I couldn't have done that without several reboots--and even then might not have been sucessful. The thing chews up web page scripts! Though I felt unfaithful, my eye definitely started wandering. Finally, Verizon made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I spent $175 and got much fresher technology. I've had the BB Worldphone for about a month now. I love it. I still touch the screen (still a blonde, you know), and I miss the MS apps--but the speed has been amazing. I think I've rebooted the sucker twice, and even that was only because I was actually trying to overload the thing to see how much it could take. The thing that saddens me the most is that I really loved my Treo. I would've happily been a loyal devotee--except that the stinking company left me!! I don't feel like a product release every three-plus years is acceptable in this day and age of gadgets every quarter. Dudes, seriously: is it ANY WONDER that RIM is kicking your butts?! You guys in PM have got to get your acts together. Enough toying with us with your clandestine picture releases and Powerpoint presentations followed by your delays and exclusive deals with one carrier or another... We have all waited long enough. I am old enough that I can remember when Palm was a formidable force in the universe for MANY products besides the Treo. Now it's a main product line and even that is not strong. I think your best days are behind you--and it would seem that you placed way too much stock in RIM losing that IP battle a couple of years ago. Get back in the game before you are a footnote. Please understand that I am far from a hater. I defended my "what is that--from like 1937?" technology to the hilt. But after a while, it gets to be a bit much. In the mean time, thanks to all of you on the forum who helped with your suggestions and help. I didn't post much--but I read a lot. I wish you success hanging in there. Wish I could've been one of you. My Treo, however--along with an extra charger, SD card, two different cases, and a car charger--has been recycled to the Domestic Abuse project. Me and my Crackberry will be doing just fine. |

![]() | Sorry to hear about you all-too-common experience. You're preaching to the choir to a great extent. Hopefully the 800w (now on Sprint, coming to Verizon "sometime") and the 850 (coming to AT&T who-knows-when) will keep Palm on life support until Nova comes out (in 2009? Come on, guys...). But I agree - most of us have been waiting far too long for new stuff. And I really fear the new WinMo & RIM stuff coming out will burry Palm, as they won't have anything real strong to compete with. Anyone heard of the following devices that have been and/or will be released over the next few months? HTC Touch Diamond (& the Pro variant), Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, Samsung Omnia and BlackBerry Bold. Oh yeah, and the Apple i-something or another. What will Palm have to compete with? I will strongly consider the 850, but will also look at some of these other sexy phones. Don't get me wrong, it's not that my trusty Palm 680 doesn't do what I want it to, but geeze - I want WiFi! Anyway, good luck with your BB.

![]() ![]() | Indeed good luck with your BB and the no touch screen for me will be a no launch of a crackberry or any other device with that limitation. I have heard that the samsung blackjackIII will be out soon with a touch screen and wifi and wm6.1. I may wait and see with the 850 maybe out in September and who knows when the BJIII might be before buying my next device. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I can promise you that there are no (unfortunately) Palm employees modding here. We would probably have a little more info for you if we did.
