mini-SD??

Is anyone out there as annoyed as I am that Palm went to the miniSD for the 755p? These days many laptops have a built in SD slot, but not so with the mini SD. Does anyone know if there is any buzz if miniSD is here to stay for treos, or if they might switch back to regular SD? Its not like the miniSD made the 755p significantly smaller or lighter...

Actually, most of the new phones coming out now are using Micro-SD cards now. Your gripe with the minis will be shortlived; let loose the scorn of the micro. Ya I hate the adaptors too, and heaven help you if you put the damn thing down and walk away; you'll never find it again. But until they start putting mass memory harddrives in the phones that no longer necessitate these addons, we are doomed to the game...

Not significantly no, but every little helps

You know, except for the short time I did without while waiting on the mini SD to ship, the switch really just doesn't bother me that much - and the cost wasn't that much anyway. I can always use the full-size SD's in my camera and the mini's fit my card reader (with or without the adapter) so what the heck... In the grand scheme of things there are so many good points to the 755 it's just not a worry.

Its the chip speeds in the cards that drive me nuts. I've got several SD cards that work just fine for slow tranfers of data, then a speedly smaller card that works better for access intensive files and then a SDHC card that can't be read by my existing built in card reader in my notebook or the dongle version that I have. I'm going to have to buy another reader!

As a part solution, one of the little SD size adapters works pretty well so you can use your existing reader built into you laptop. One more step, but a pretty small accessory to carry.

well chew on this one,
SD size WiFi cards have been around for years and are fairly cheap, not to mention that industrious folks out there have found ways to hack them to use on treos in the past. Now take a look around the net and see what your choices are for miniSD WiFi cards...
exactly.
Bottom line is AT&T/Sprint/Verizon put a stranglehold on Palm not to make their devices WiFi capable because they want you to use their data networks. Sure the iPhone has WiFi, but that was probably only conceded in order to guarantee exclusivity (not to mention, i hear their data network sucks). I know it seems like a stretch, but Palm has to do everything in their power to make sure you will never see WiFi on their Treo handsets.

A bluetooth hard drive would be horrible because bluetooth data transfer is slow plus an bluetooth solid state drive would be better.

There are readily available WiFi miniSD cards. I have one made by a company called spectec. It works in WM 5 and 6. I know that doesn't help Palm OS users but they are available.
