![]() ![]() | What Future? If you haven't heard yet, Ed Colligan announced that the Linux based Palm OS II won't be available 'til sometime in 2008! Future(?) Treos will have either WM5 or WM6 or Garnet OS. So we're looking at yet another year of no updating in the OS and no WiFi or anything else for that matter. And Palm expects us to invest in the Foleo? I'm at a lose as what Palm can be thinking, or even if there is any strategic foresight existing in the corporation. Apple launched the iPhone. 500,000 units sold in a weekend. Palm couldn't sell that many units in a year. Don't get me wrong I love my 650 and was looking forward to a new 8XX, but unless Palm can come up with a NEW Treo, not a rehash of what we have now, and not a "companion", I don't see a future, I see a dead end.

Also the iPhone has been the subject of 2 years worth of hype, it's probably the single most hyped electronic device in history ![]() I agree it's disappointing that the new Palm OS will not be released until next year, but hopefully the recent injection of capital will help speed development up ![]()

![]() | Cartogary makes an interesting point Hi there Just reading your comment about the lack of development with treo and the iphones amaxing launch, it does a ppear there are many ways in which to take this. Palm have the right form factor for a business and all round smartphone, especially here in the UK, where it seems the windows os is better known and used than the palm version, although I may be about to be shot at from many people, please correct me if wrong When Palm launched the Lifedrive, it seems to me it was the iphone ahead of its time, but without the telephone option. Apple seem to have just added the ipod and phone, and hyped it all over the world, and all apple and ipod lovers out there will have lapped it up.... Palm could still have a iphone equivalent, and also maintain the treo, our business has recently moved all the sales team to the 750, and I think it has been superb, and have a deal with Vodafone, where we get 3G. There is an option here to have 2-3 models of treo for different OS, and also for personal and business use. The Lifedrive could be re-developed as a more compact product with phone and mp3 player facilities, and away you go. Not sure people will be too happy in a few months time with smeared finger marks all over their not so shiny iphones Sounds like I have just dumped all my thoughts down But not sure how else to put it....Love the site, handy for us brits who dont have much support for information on such an excellent device. |

![]() | Lifedrive or Tx + phone = iphone killer I love apple and I think the iPhone is great But I think Treo can do better. Palm is stuck in a rutt. I been with palm for a long time. I had a platinum with the visor phone, treo 180, treo 270, tungsten W, and a treo 650. It is time for palm to step up to the plate and do something different. the tungsten W had the best layout. eventhought it was bigger the spacing of the keys made it easier to type. csward75 was right... the LIFEDRIVE was a great design all it needed was the phone part. there are two reasons why having a treo is great for business. 1) having a keyboard, 2) enterprise apps. once apple start allowing enterprise apps. Palm stock will drop. The good thing about this iphone crazy world with 50% of iphone buyers switching to att. the other carriers will be looking for that Iphone killer phone. palm with have some new found leverage. I think the treo 800 and this foleo (palm terminal) are dead in the water. knowing palm they will just make treo 780 and it will be a 750 with wifi. Lifedrive or Tx + phone = iphone killer visor phone> treo 180 > treo 270 > treo 650 > |

![]() ![]() | Foleo's demise + new iPod phone = Treo 900 What a week and it's only Wednesday! Ed Colligan announces Foleo demise and Steve Jobs launches an iPod phone, discounts the 8gb iPhone, and discontinues the 4gb iPhone, look for them on eBay next Xmas for a $100. But to the point, the Future Treo. Palm, you just got lucky! The iPhone is not, IMO, a very smartphone. Yeah, it's got a calendar, contacts, mp3, photos, email etc.. but you can't run Pocket Quicken, Filemaker databases, TinySheet, TimeSlips, and host of the apps that I personally used on a daily basis. I'm sure hundreds of other Treo users have long lists of apps that are "must haves". Again the point is the iPhone didn't evolve. It went sideways. It's totally leverage to it's music/photo/video realm and it's touchscreen UI. 'Tho very cool, it ain't getting my bills paid. My Treo has a JOB. Manage the finances, track my billable hours, sync databases, spreadsheets with new daily input as a all the usual contacts, appointments, etc any good PDA is expected to manage. Plus there's 3rd party apps to manage all the music/photo/video already. Dropping the Foleo and Apples' misstep, this is opportunity knocking. IF Palm can launch a Treo with new OS, Wi Fi, a keyboard (nothing smaller than the 680) and some of the other features on wishlists around these forums, in the first qtr 2008 then the Treo brethren will be breathing alot easier. I think the light just got brighter at the end of tunnel. Ok Palm, time to hit the halogens.
