| Junior Member ![]() | I hope I'm not being naive in thinking that the #1 goal of the new Linux-based Palm OS II is the ability to flawlessly run all of those 51,000 Palm OS I apps! And hopefully in nice little protected-memory areas, so that an ill-behaved one pees only in it's own Cheerios.... Personally, I hope Palm takes a major step forward soon in processor power/speed to allow a user-transparent virtualization environment, where Palm, WM, Linux and BB apps all run on top of a rock-solid core that provides the actual communications-and-UI foundation. "Best of Both Worlds, Captain Picard" :-) Perhaps the forthcoming ultra-low-power AMD quad-core? |

![]() ![]() | Honestly, I am a little worried about the form factor. It is posted somewhere that Palm has hired the guy who worked heavily for Helio on their devices. With the new OS debuting on a new form factor I would hate to see a Treo/Centro combination with a sliding keyboard... I know they thought about those with big hands, even in late releases of the Treo, I hope they didnt forget with this new phone. (Which is why I wonder if there will be an option to buy an upgrade to go from recent PalmOS versions to the new OS on existing Treos/Centros). Concerning the stability and UI... I would expect it to be the same kind of jump that we all saw when Palm released its current OS. It has to at least be stable enough to grab back the Blackberry users and the UI has to remain such that they dont lose anyone else to the WM side of things. It isnt going to be perfect, especially not in the first or second generation releases, nothing ever is. Looking at Palm's history, I cant imagine it being anything less than meeting the realistic expectations of hardcore PalmOS users.

| Junior Member ![]() | You say tomato.... Some folks love the idea of a big, sliding QWERTY keyboard, others loathe the very suggestion. When they make me Supreme Dictator of Palm for a day, I will order the Development Team to make devices in both form factors but with identical guts, software and overall capabilities. The one with a sliding keyboard will obviously have a bigger (and higher-res) screen, but other than that, they will be functionally identical. People who have never used a Treo keyboard go "Oooo!" and "Ahhh!" for sliding keyboards, so why not let 'em have one? And if, by the end of the day, I have not been dragged out of the building, I'll also order them to build a third version with a big touch-screen-only, ala an iFone. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I actually like sliding keyboard, but I don't like the idea of the slider mechanism wearing out. The problem with your solution dpaus, is making sure all apps work at all the resolutions (likely 3 if you had your way). |
