Palm Pre "A disappointment!" What do you think?

I am somewhat disappointed by the Palm Pre's appearance. I tend to like crisper designs rather than soft rounded shapes.

Where's the expansion slot? 7.4 GB is surely not enough internal memory. I guess Palm wants you to store everything that you'd normally put into memory on an internet website i.e. pictures on Flikr for example??? And what does USB mass storage support mean exactly?

A comment by gadgetsage on another website:
"Wow, their new phone does everything that other phones have done for years, they've used the crappy centro keypad, and their big innovation is inductive charging which will suck compared to simply plugging a cord into the thing."

It's so obvious that initially I completely overlooked it.

If anything, they should have gone to the mini-usb charging connector that's become so widespread. That way there'd be one less charger I'd need to buy. The KRZR and my BT headset already use mini-usb.

Unfortunately, in their attempt to create a "marvel" Palm's engineers forgot about the K.I.S.S. principle.

Again, just my opinion.

No voice dialing? With handsfree being a legal requirement in my state, that's a really terrible omission. It's been bad enough trying to do voice dialing on my 755 using Voicedialit. That's been useless for mr (YMMV), while my S/O's KRZR has built-in voice dialing that works like a charm, Her speakerphone function is perfectly loud and clear, unlike my 755. I was looking for better in the new "breakthrough" Palm model.

I do like that it seems to multitask, but I haven't seen the WebOS described in any detail. So far. It's impossible to say whether it will be anywhere as intuitive as the previous Palm OS. The OS that I have loved for its intuitiveness, but also hated for years, particularly when I had to switch between apps or had reset after reset. Will the new OS offer the stability that I've longed for?

My Sprint contract has just ended and I had been anxiously waiting for the "new and improved" Palm smartphone so that I could negotiate price.
Now I'm not sure what to do about a replacement for my 755P.

The iPhone is attractive, but it lacks some features that are very important to me, such as syncing with Entourage. I can't tell how the Pre will sync, if at all, with Entourage, which would be a deal breaker for me. I've used the Missing Sync, btw with no problems at all. Also, I don't like its virtual keyboard. Spoiled by the Treo, I guess.

The BB "Storm" seems to have lots of attractive features, but it too, has negatives compared to my current Treo.

So far, I haven't seen a smartphone that has everything that I want, so I'll have to wait for an opportunity to have some hands on experience with the Palm Pre before I totally give up on it.

But, as I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

Very dissapointed

I agree with you very very dissapointed. What a load of hype for a load of rubbish.
What is the host of this site on with "wow, wow, wow"?

Ther is nothing wow about it at all if you want wow take a look at gadget mag T3 with there concept of the 01 phone. This could have been a Palm if they had any imagination.

Why is the screen still so small the whole phone needs to be the screen especially with the pull out key pad.

The Treo 650 is still better.

The software on the new phone better be good or by by Palm.
