| Junior Member ![]() | Blackberry Storm vs. anything Palm-based in the near future.... First of all......I am a die hard Treo fan and have owned them for the last 4 years. As other corporate folks have gone to the Blackberry, I have stood my ground and enjoyed a generally more satisfying experience. The Treo continues to excel in features and reliability.....until possibly now. The Blackberry Storm. On paper, it makes me impatient with Palm and my preferred service provider (Verizon). Except that Verizon will offer the Storm and apparently will not offer the Treo Pro. Again, on paper, the Storm is going to make converts of many people or at least make them think twice (for those who've patiently waited for the next Palm OS or some Treo Pro offering with major cell carriers). Here's the specs that stand out to me on the Storm: 3G access Touch Screen (now this is no longer a negative for Blackberry) 8GB micro-SD card is standard 3.2 MP camera/video Lots of built-in memory/RAM/flash Full HTML browser GPS As I read more and more about what Treo users wish for, it is becoming clearer that I either need to be more patient or possibly convert to the Storm for a year and then see what Palm/Verizon has to offer. Anyone else getting impatient? (I mention this in large part because my local Verizon stores only carry the Centro and no other Treo option. The Centro is too small and in my estimation, not a good enough upgrade to the 700p.)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The Storm has a touch screen, but to me the benefit of the Treo is both the PHYSICAL keyboard and the touch screen. So the Storm makes a clicking sound when you type, its not a tactile resonse. This would take me away from the Storm. As of right now Verizon cannot offer the Pro, as it's GSM and not CDMA which is the network Verizon uses. It's also a Windows Mobile device, I'm not sure if works for you seeing as how you had the option to go to the 700w(x) and went to the 700p sticking with Palm OS. Verizon has dropped the 755p which would be the only other Palm device on Verizon other than the centro. As most other users here know, I could care less what Verizon does. I was with them for a few years and their service was terrible for me. I do try to keep tabs on their devices because a few of our managers have service through them because one of the co owners of the company got some sort of deal... Their slow speed in picking up Palm devices will keep me away from them even more. However, if you are wanting a new device, the storm may be a good bet for you. |

![]() | I'll admit I've been thinking about the Storm. It looks like a really good device for all that you have mentioned and a few more. I would definitley go to the 800w if Verizon would just get it. They were supposed to already have it if you believe the rumor mill. Thing is, due to the integration winmo gives me with my laptop (due in large part to windows live with contacts) I am a die hard winmo user. Right now the only things keeping me from switching to storm is uncertainty about blackberrys ability to push my msn mail (not willing to change the email address I've had for over a decade), inability to create docs on it (though I believe there is a workaround), and what a severe pain it would be to put all my contacts on it. Right now if I add delete or edit a contact on my treo, it changes for everthing else over the air and vice versa. Maybe I'm being lazy. Maybe all the work switching would be well worth it. Contrary to your experience with Verizon, mine has been outstanding. If only they would get more Treos, Specifically the 800w.

![]() | AKing. If I am not mistaken the Storm comes pre-loaded with D2G. i am also with you. If the 800W or Treo Pro were at VZ I would get one with a RedFly Companion. Eventhough I am no Windows fan. LL, I thought that the Storms haptic feeling not only came from the clicking sound but also the fact that the whole screen slightly depressed the way the new MacBooks tackpad did. At least that is what I was told. CarNut, I am actually going to my local VZ store Friday to check the Storm out. If it is even close to what I have read I will be getting it. The biggest draw back that I have seen with the BB are that they do not have SD card back up. may just have to live without that for a while. ![]() It is going to be a sad day but my 755P is just not very stable anymore. I will not go into the whole story, but I have done five resets this year and have uninstalled hundreds of dollars worth a software in a vain attempt to get my 755P to work like it use to. I have not given up on Palm, I amy come back once Nova comes out on the new devices. But for now I have to have something more reliable than what I have. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Also be aware that there is not a whole lot of 3rd party software for the BB. I'm not sure if the screen does depress somewhat but it could. let me know |

![]() | You know, I am getting really tired of waiting. After a few years of waiting, I've lost all hope. Nova will never come out, and if it does some year, there wont be enough customers left to support the company. I have been hearing the siren that is The Storm. I want this phone so bad! There isnt anything the Treo can do that the BB can't. They even share alot of the same programs! I can't wait to touch one of these things. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Software development on the BB is a lot harder than for Windows Mobile or PalmOS, so whilst there is third party software available the amount is still quite limited compared to the other two OS's. You also can't customize them to the same degree as Windows Mobile and to a lesser extent PalmOS. I've used quite a few BB's and have always been underwhelmed by them, maybe the Storm is will be the first one to impress me ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have a BB and a Treo800w. Other than getting my corporate e-mail, the 800w (755P prior to that) blows the BB out of the water. Hell, I can't even read a PDF document on my BB. I have to forward it to my personal e-mail and then open it on my 800w. Howz that!
