Centro SMS error 256 - Treo Forum

The Centro is a great device, but as of yesterday I cannot SEND SMS messages- I get the following error right after I try to send a text:

An Error Occurred:
An error occurred (256) when sending this message. Please check the phone number or email address and try again.

I thought I had reached my text message limit- but my carrier confirms I have no limit.

Does anyone know what this problem is?

Have you tried a soft reset yet? Also, have you installed any new third party software recently?

No. No 3rd party software has been installed. I even did a HARD reset! No change. I cannot send sms. Same error: 256

Is this a GSM Centro and if so have you tried another SIM in it?

I had an error when sending texts as well. I am with Sprint and I am CDMA. Different code but could be the same issue. Call your service provider. It is a glitch on their end. I couldn't send a text for 2 days. I got a call from 3rd tier support saying that one of their "machines" needed a reboot. My txt started working fine after their fix.

This is just my experience and in no way I am saying that is yours, but could be.

Sounds like a strong possibility of sme error to me.

You were right. It was on my carrier's end. They had to "restart" my SIM. After they did that, all was well.

I asked them how in the world something like this would happen- and of course they had "no idea".

I'm just happy the issue was resolved. Thanks for all the posts.

A qualification for techical support must be that your name is Schultz, Hermann and you were a sergeant in the german army and worked in the prison camp on "Hogan's Heros" and you "know nothing"

errors like this is carrier related no matter if you are using a CDMA or GSM user.
