Centro reboots at connecting to pc

Hi,
Just moved from Treo 650 to Centro. Size factor excellent improvement. Installation went well (XP), and syncing as well. Now however can´t sync anymore, as Centro reboots at connecting the cable to the USB part (and keep rebooting til disconnecting).

Any idea (before I to reinstall all software..) ?

Thanks!
Marc

Did you follow all the instructions regarding migration from an older Palm device?

I suspect not, and he has some older program causing a conflict or I guess he could have installed some other program which is now causing an issue.

Or some data might've become corrupted during transfer. My recommendation would be to try to sync again and pay attention to where in the sync process the device resets. If it in the PIM data or another DB, then download a copy of DBScan (I'm told this will work on the Centro), and run a scan of the device and see if there is any corrupted PIM data. I've never used DBScan, but my understanding is that it is the precursor to DBFixIt, which also scans all other databases (selected one at a time) for corruption. If DBScan does this, then use it as it is freeware. You could also download DBFixit and use it to scan the device and diagnose any issues, but you won't be able to fix them unless you purchase the program.

Hi, all. Sorry to bump this thread on my first post on the forum but I have solved the issue which is something I consider of more importance than the bump of an old thread ... go ahead, flame me if you like: I have a broad back.

Warning: long post ahead!

I have never followed the migration instructions of Palm when shifting from an older device to a newer device and as a result usually had a bumpy ride because of it. I have done this the fourth time now when I migrated from my second 680 to the centro.

What I did was usually just hotsynching the new device with the all the data (programs, PIM and all) from the old device. When you do that you get some of the system application/program files from the old device onto the new one. You'll name collisions with the files already in the ROM of the new device. In my case (and as described in the OP) you'll two instances of the system file "USBClientBulverdeIntel": one in the ROM and one in the internal RAM. I solved the problem described in the OP by simply deleting the file in the internal RAM using FileZ.

Generally, what I did was:
(01) I used FileZ (use the latest version available for the Centro)
(02) I opened the Internal memory
(03) I displayed the "Creator" column
(04) I checked "ROM" in the upper right corner. Files in the ROM were now marked with a small ROM Chip icon.
(05) I looked for all files with a duplicate name (one file in the internal RAM, one in the ROM)
(06) In each case I deleted the RAM duplicate.
(07) I solved the problem described in the OP by deleting "USBClientBulverdeIntel" from RAM.
(08) I gnashed my teeth because I deleted my favorites from the phone app.
(09) I found out some new stuff: the centro has mathlib in the ROM, for example.
(10) I had about 0.5 MB more available afterwards.

If you doing the same things as I did and it doesn't work, don't come crying here on the forum. This is hardcore risky stuff and not a panacea.

Backup using NVbackup or something like that. Document what you did. Be ready to accept that things may not and a hard reset is the only option to unbrick your device.

Best of Luck,
cklammer
