![]() | Migrating from TX to ATT Centro I am completely new to the smartphone world but not to Palm PDA's yet I want to be very cautious about proceeding with migration from my old PDA to the Centro. I have a Palm TX and I assume that the easiest way to migrate my data off my TX to the Centro is by a hot sync but I also want to know if that is the most dependable way. Will it automatically sync any 3rd party apps and the accompanying data or do I need to install the programs and then sync from my old PDA to carry over my data? Seems like a real nice group of people here, I look forward to exchanging information on the Centro! BTW, I purchased one of the newly released Obsidian ATT Centro phones earlier today. Very nice! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome to Treonauts, Nostelee!!!!1 I also upgraded from a T/X (to the 755p, which has essentially the same functionality as the Centro). Much of the T/X software does not work on the Centro. I would recommend looking up each app and see if the same version is compatible with the Centro. Furthermore, even if it does work, developers may or may not allow you to move the stuff over without purchasing the software again. One possible way to get around the later is to name your new Treo with the same User ID as the old one, but first back everything up to the computer. Palm has some good instructions for upgrading between particular devices, by the way. There are three ways to move the stuff over (Hotsync, which I would recommend; IR, and Bluetooth). The PIM data is fairly easy to port over, regardless of whether you use the same User ID or not. One final tip that Brandon taught me, is that some apps that won't work by hotsyncing directly to the device, can be downloaded to your card, and then moved over to the phone and then, for some reason, work (the expense app, for one). Good luck and enjoy your new phone! Stu |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome to Treonauts Nosteele! Make sure you follow the migration directions as indicated in the Centro's manual. And as stuartrayner says, back up, before you do it, so if something does go wrong you didn't lose your info. PIM data is least likely to cause problems, but some TX apps may cause conflicts and crashes. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome to Treonauts Nosteele. We are all glad you are here. You definitely need to be careful in migrating to a ne device from the T/X as even minor differences in the os and older versions of programs may cause a great deal of problems in getting up and running as mentioned by staurt and Lotus Lord. Take care and enjoy your device. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | LL aka "My Lord," I am correct in saying that the Centro on EVDO is 3G or nearly 3G right? (NOTE: I realize she was asking about GSM). Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't like to give out inaccurate info. I had done some research a while back, but am old and can't always remember straight (that's my story and I'm sticking to it). Stu Oops, I posted this in the wrong thread. Oh well..I really am getting old. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That's a little sacreligious, but what ever. Yes the Sprint Centro would be 3G, because it's CDMA, and as far as I know the CDMA networks have disconnected their older towers. |

![]() | Thanks for the suggestions. I did do some preliminary research last weekend to see what TX programs would work on the Centro but did not go as far as checking the versions vs what I have installed. I hope I don't have to do too many resets because what a PIA to reset the Centro as opposed to using the recessed-use the paper clip-reset button on my earlier Palms. I am going away for a relaxing weekend and have decided to table my migration until I return on Monday. It never fails......what should be a fairly easy project turns into a nightmare. I love getting new gadgets but hate setting them up! Thanks again and now I am off to post another query about microSD cards. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There is a freeware app called "Soft Reset," that will save you from having to take the cover off, remove the battery, place the battery back in, etc. All you have to do with it, is press the app and presto, a soft reset occurs. I don't think I mentioned this before, but if you want to list any particular apps that you are unsure of, please feel free to do so....there are enough Centro users here to let you know whether they will work on the Centro or not. |

![]() | First, let me say that I have been on numerous forums for many different topics and I have to say that this group is one of the friendliest forums I have run into in a long time. Thank you for making me feel very welcome. I have been on the Palm website and have been reading their migration tips so I am getting a handle on that. WooHoo! Loved to read about the Soft Reset program because I find the battery cover difficult to put back on. It feels a bit flimsy and I am afraid of breaking it. I am going to go ahead with the suggestion that was made about posting the programs that I have used on my TX that I want to use on my Centro. They are: SplashID SplashShopper SplashPhoto PocketQuicken Agendus RescoBU FileZ Crash BubblePop HoliDates Joggle ListPro MobileWrite PalmPDF PowerBtn TealLock TurboPassword WordPop CurrencyConverter DBFixit DBScan - IconManager LoanMax MyKybd PowerOne Calculator RescoLock TextPlus UnDupe That's it, feedback is appreciated! |
