![]() | HotSync keeps renaming my User ID! Help! I had a Palm Vx years ago and still have the old Desktop info on my Mac (now running 10.3.9). I upgraded to palm 4.2.1 and went to HotSync my Centro for the first time. Palm found my old user ID, no problem, but when it had completed the sync I discovered it had created a new ID, "PalmUser57," and none of my info had been synced. I did a hard reset and tried again; same exact results. What now? How do I get it to recognize my old ID? Please help! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Welcome to Treonauts, melzabub!!!!! I'm not familiar with that desktop version, but I know if you go into most Palm desktops you can rename your HotSync ID. Open up the desktop, and in the upper right corner you'll see the Hotsync ID name along with a pull down menu. Click on that and hit "edit users." You can delete the wrong ID or rename it. I'd check to make sure the old ID is still there. I would caution, however, that there is a big chance that stuff from your ancint Palm (just kidding), will not work or maybe even sync to your Centro. If there are particular things you want to move over to the Centro, you might be better off with using your IR port instead. If someone has more to add, please do so. |

![]() | Thanks, Stuart, I appreciate your help! I've tried what you mentioned. It's no problem to delete the "PalmUser57" HotSync ID from my desktop (and the old ID is still there). Unfortunately, I can't seem to get the "bad" ID off my actual Centro (am I not hard-resetting correctly? it won't go away!), and then when I sync it just re-establishes itself on my desktop. Any thoughts? |

![]() | OK, I think I got it...Instead of deleting the "PalmUser57" ID, I renamed it. Then I merged that with the old data file, and that seems to have worked! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In case you run into that again, there's a handy little app called ChangeName that will let you change the Hotsync ID from the device itself.

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | I am having the same problem. Yesterday I got the Palm Centro (in finally came out in black @ ATT). My old phone is a Treo 650 and it won't do a hotsync because my phone's name is "Palm77"... Soooo.... Where is this application on my device where I can change my name to the name on my Palm Desktop software? So far, the software that came with my phone is worthless. It just tells me I already have Palm software on my computer and doesn't update to reflect Centro. Thank you! Annie |

![]() | Did you try deleting the "PalmUser77" ID on your desktop software, renaming it, then merging that with the old data file, then hot-syncing again? When I did this it renamed the ID on my device (once I hot-synced). You may have to change your User ID initially from what you've been using, but then once you've merged the files you can change it back. |
