Unlocked GSM Centro: WHERE IS IT? - Treo Forum

I've been waiting for several months now for an unlocked version of the GSM Centro to use on my T-Mobile network. Any ideas why it hasn't been released yet?

The GSM centro just became available, AT&T may have convinced Palm to keep it exclusive for a while at least in the US. Though if you do a Google search for unlocked Centro you can find Black GSM ones unlocked apparently. Priced a little higher of course but they are available.

I got my unlocked new Treo 680 on eBay. Price moderately better that in store. No problems. Maybe worth a try.

You're going to pay more for an unlocked device, it's the way it works, but they're available.

Yes, I know I'll be paying more for an unlocked device, but that's not the issue.

I'm wondering why Palm hasn't released an unlocked unbranded version as they did when I purchased my 680.

So, not to be rude in correcting you, but they're NOT available, at least not direct from Palm. That's why I started this post.

Not in the US, but in the UK. And people are importing them, so you can get them. As I said a google search brought up at least 2 that were available, though as you said, not from Palm directly. I'm guessing it wasn't a strong seller in the US.

Probably for the reason LL has already stated that AT&T wanted an exclusive on it for a period of time. This is the way Palm works with carriers, good news if you're with that carrier, bad news if you're not

Hi, as I said in a different thread to someone who was seeking an unlocked centro in the UK, I have just bought one (last week) online fron micomonline.co.uk for around £175 next day delivered. I also saw them in stock in numerous uk online outlets, such as amazon, expansys and indeed, the europalm uk-flagged website!

My one is completely unlocked and network-unbranded, currently being used with a Tesco sim.

Not seen one in the shops though.
