Why couldn't they have made it the standard size?

Hiya jham,

Not sure, except maybe because the standard jack would take more room, particularly on the Centro. Furthermore, most cell phones use the 2.5 jack. There are adapters that have minimal impact on sound quality and there is always bluetooth headsets. I think a bigger problem is the poor quality of the jack itself (it disconnects too easily).

Most phones in general use the 2.5 jack. It could be worse remember, lots of new cell phones use a propriatary USB connector for power and accessories, Samsung and LG are good examples. My brother has a Chocolate and it requires a 25-40 dollar adapter for headphones, similar with my wife's Samsung Sync, and often it's different for different models.
