![]() | Centro touchscreen not sensitive? Hello. I upgraded from a Treo 650 to a Centro, and overall it feels like a step down. My Centro will often "freeze" for several seconds when scrolling, etc., which my Treo never did (identical apps and data loaded). It resets constantly (I can't d/l and play Audible files - it resets every time when trying to play). The worst problem is that my touchscreen doesn't register taps easily. It was like this right out of the box (no extra apps installed). I can tap an app five times before it registers. The only thing that works reliably is to tap super-hard or to tap normally but hold for half a quarter or half a second - which seems very awkward. It is so bad I started using the tiny keyboard, which stinks because I use a Palm due to RSI/carpal tunnel and need the stylus to keep my thumbs and wrists from hurting while typing. Picking up my old Treo after 5 days with the Centro, I was surprised how easy it was to tap the Treo screen. I've had several Palm devices and never have seen one that is so unresponsive to touch as the Centro. Other Centro owners (and those who are touch screen power users): Is this typical of the Centro in general? Thanks in advance for your help. |

| Regular Contributer ![]() | From the fact that your treo has so many problems my first guess is that when moving from the 650 (same apps) that you brought incompatible apps into the centro. Some of the apps I was using on my 680 caused the same problems until I updated or removed them. I think most of your problems would clear up if you did a proper clean install from scratch and using the palm utility to only bring data to the new phone. One more thought, any chance your using a screen guard as that can cause problems if not properly installed. Sensitivity is about the same a my previous palms although because the icons are smaller, you do need to be more precise sometimes. As for the keyboard, I find it's about the same for me although it's not usable for some friends with big fingers. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree with bigcatney. One way to test the theory is to do a warm reset and run it that way for a little while and see if you notice any improvement. If you don't, then it is a hardware issue and I would take it back and get a replacement. Centros are definitely a big improvement over the 600 series. |

![]() | Compared with a display model . . . Thanks for the replies. I agree that that the misbehavior is likely due to outdated apps. I updated a couple and noticed overall stability improvement, but Audible still has problems d/l partial files. It will crash every time. I think that some additional work along the lines you two suggest will be helpful. I went to a Sprint store tonight, and was able to compare my phone to a working display phone. The display phone had a more sensitive touchscreen than mine, so I suspect that I have an issue. The touchscreen problem was present from the moment I took it out of the box, so I doubt that it's a software issue. That being said, the Sprint Store Centro display phone was still less sensitive to other Palm devices that I have used over the years (Treo 650, Zire 72, Tungsten C). I wonder if the Centro's "permanent" screen protector is the culprit. It feels a little squishy, making some light or quick taps fail to register. I tried a working 755p that they had on display, and the touchscreen was just like my Treo 650, and unlike the Centro. All said, I'll give the Centro a little longer . . . I still have a few weeks to return it if need be. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I do notice the sensitivity issue a little with my daughter's Centro. However, when ever I use my "sturdy" stylus I don't notice it as much. I think is the cheap stylus they use. As for the software, just do as the other members have posted. Clean install. |

![]() | I concur. The issue is more likely the cheap plastic stylus, rather than the screen. My Centro is just as responsive as others. It's also harder to hit the right spot, which I offer could cause the Centro to SEEM less responsive.

![]() | No, it's not the stylus. I've experimented with my Treo 650 stylus and the massive one from my old Tungsten C, and neither improve the situation on my Centro very much. Actually, the plastic stylus from the Centro worked better on the store display model than on mine. Still, I suspect that all Centros are less sensitive than other Palm devices, maybe due to the permanent screen protector. Regarding the spontaneous resets, I've identified Agendus 12.0.6 as a cause. Is my only recourse deleting the offending app? If so, that's a deal-breaker. This app does not cause my Treo 650 to reset. |

![]() | For me it is the stylus. So I suggest you take it in and get a replacement, since it seems it really is noticeable to you.

![]() | I'll take it in if I can get these resets under control. If not, I'll be satisfied with my old Treo 650. Besides the Centro's quicker d/l speeds (only in heavily populated areas, as I've discovered) and the smaller size, the two devices are nearly the same. ![]() |
