Palm Desktop by ACCESS 6.2 for Windows

So this update is actually somewhat of a rollback.

Please read carefully before deciding to update...

The Good:

* Integrated Desktop: Provides a single desktop and conduit compatibility across all Palm OS 3.5.x through 5.4.x devices.
* Enterprise Friendly HotSync Enhancements: HotSync Manager 7.0 is a standalone application, and no longer requires Palm Desktop to be installed on the computer. All user management functionality has been moved into HotSync Manager 7.0 Migration Tools: the installer checks for the latest settings and reports any known incompatibilities with third-party software.
* Multilingual Support: Localized in Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish.
* Install Tool: The Install Tool, which replaces the "Palm Quick Install" tool, allows you to sync .prc and .pdb files (Palm OS applications and databases) to your device.
* Outlook 2007 synchronization: Allows you to use your USB sync cable to synchronize with Outlook 2007's Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes. This version includes all previously released patches such as the Outlook 2007 Update.

The Bad:

* This version of Palm Desktop does not include some features of previous Palm Desktop versions:
o Palm Quick Install Tool: The Palm Quick Install Tool has been replaced by the Install Tool, which lets you install applications onto your device through HotSync.
o VersaMail HotSync synchronization: You will not be able to synchronize email through the USB sync cable. Wireless email synchronization, including Exchange ActiveSync for Outlook accounts, is not affected by this limitation.
* Birthdays and Anniversary reminders that appear in the Calendar on your Palm device will not appear in the Calendar in the Palm Desktop application.
o
This does not apply to manually created Calendar events; it only applies to reminders generated from the Contacts application fields for Birthday and Anniversary on your device. These reminders will not appear in Palm Desktop, but they will be backed up on your computer when you sync, and they will be restored to your Palm device if you erase your device and then perform a HotSync operation to retrieve data from a backup.
* Color coding of events in the Calendar is no longer supported.
* 64-bit Editions of Windows Vista are not supported.

I think I'll stick with 4.2... looks like I'm not alone.

So can I actually sync my Centro to Palm Desktop 4.x? The instructions that came with my Centro said to install 6.2.2 and to uninstall any previous versions. I have not had any problems with 6.2.2, except I miss the color coding.

One problem though is husband still uses a Treo 600 and sync to our laptop. When I tried to install 6.2.2 on the laptop, I was prompted to uninstall previous Palm versions, so I cancelled the install. I don't think the Treo is compatible with 6.2.2. I tried to sync my Centro to the laptop (with 4.1 or 4.2), but it went on a never ending sync so I had to cancel.

So what do we do? I'd like to be able to sync on both computers. Palm says not to run 2 different versions of Desktop on the same computer.

Dettem, welcome to Treonauts!!! I got a little lost with your post. Its clear you are frustrated. I have a Treo 755p and use 6.2.2, so I'm not sure what you mean that the Treo is not compatible with it (by the way, the Centro is also a Treo). It would seem to me that if you install 6.2.2 unto the laptop (and uninstall earlier version) you should be fine (as should your husband). Let me know if I missed something.

My husband has a Treo 600 (I believe the Palm website says to use 4.1 with Treo 600).

Has your husband attempted to use the newer desktop? I read the info at Palm's support site and wonder if it just hasn't been updated. I would recommend he back everything up and then try to hotsync using the newer desktop and see how that goes. If it works then you can install the newer dektop of the laptop and you're both golden. If it doesn't work, then he can simply hard reset and restore form his backup and you all just won't be able to share computers for hotsyncing. You might also want to try Palm's live chat support and see what they have to say. It would seem that there should be an easy work around.

I suppose we can try that. Not too big a deal right now. He is looking at replacing his 600 and is leaning towards getting an iPhone. I considered the iPhone as well, but decided that I can't give up Palm, which I have been using for 8 years. I like the Centro, but I just have to fix the few bugs that I have encountered. With the help of support forums and guys like you, I can almost always seem to find answers. (In fact, I will be posting on another issue - I hope you can help me with it).
