Exclamation Random Unauthorized Internet Connection Attempts

I'm having my first issue. Actually my second. My first is random soft resets but I'm not addressing that right now.

The random unauthorized internet connection attempts trump the former. I'm at a loss. I checked all of my apps that I believe are attempting to connect to the net. I've checked settings and double-checked settings to no avail.

The main reason why this is an issue is the popup message surpresses all other notifications. So if my alarm is suppose to wake me up at 5 but the connect to internet popup is present before 5 and I haven't responded, it'll sit there and the alarm will not go off. Luckily I set multiple devices as alarms. My task reminders and calendar reminders are qued until this internet message is handled.

I pose this quandary to you, the knowledgebase. What sayeth thee?

Sidenote:
I've done a search (through about 17 pages of threads) but didn't really find the information to solve my problem. Here are the related threads I found (so you won't have to search either):Worse case I'll have to reset and see how it goes.

I don't believe it's related to any new apps I've installed because it was happening before I installed any apps.

Current installed apps:
  • Astraware Solitaire
  • BibleReader
  • Handyshopper
  • HolidayUSA
  • Noah Pro Dictionary
  • Theasaurus
  • Village Sim

Optimus Centro out.

Optimus,

You didn't state the specifics or your updating problem. Here is everything I know (which isn't much) about Vision and Power Vision:

Sprint Power Vision Problems: There are a number of Power Vision issues that have overlapping symptoms, which makes diagnosing them a little bit more difficult. The first problem often discussed, is the issue of Power Vision not linking with EVDO on the first attempt (sometimes resulting in a stuck “connecting to power vision” screen), but doing so on second attempts. In researching this in the forums, this is almost always a provisioning problem. There is a way of doing a reprovision yourself that involves a factory (Zero) reset, and then changing your password on Sprint, and then signing on and allowing the Treo to reprovision itself. However, I think the wiser and surer way is to contact Sprint’s technical support and having them assist you in the process. Furthermore, you may find that there are some other reasons for the problems (read on). If you are pressed for time, you can do the following as a temporary fix, that will enable you to use the 1x network, rather than EVDO: Disable broadband by using the hashcode ##EVDO#.

Another common issue is the “Update Vision Profile” coming on frequently. I had this problem myself, and was largely able to get rid of it by backing everything up, doing a hard reset, then going into the phone application, typing ##3282#, then hitting the menu key, scrolling down and hitting the Update Vision Profile, and letting it run. Once it was finished, I did a full restore. Since I did that the week after Christmas, I have only seen the updater four times (as opposed to the two to three times a day before I did this). So, I started telling others that had this problem my solution. However, it didn’t work for everyone.

A group of us worked collectively with Sprint technicians to discover what was causing this problem. For those that my solution didn’t work on, they found that when they used the hash code ##DEBUG# and went to [EVDO] it would list a low receiving strength, and would give an error message:

"AN/AAA Auth authenitcation failed"

This indicated that it was a network issue, not a hardware issue.

Those people had to call Sprint and talk to a Tier 2 technician (from Advanced Technical Support – ATS). They discovered a couple things. First, some of them had the wrong vision plan. This was true of both people who were only paying for “Vision” and for some who were paying for “Power Vision,” but were still only set up for “Vision.” Some of them also had to change their username, either because they had bought a used phone, or because they had ported their old number over to their new phone. Once those issues were fixed they were able to Update Power Vision and all was well. It should be noted that it was also reported that it was harder to do on the SERO accounts because Power Vision is part of the plan, and therefore more difficult to disable and then put back on. Here again, a different username might be used as a work around.

The techs can check if AN-AAA/EVDO is Disabled or not and if your Treo was ever provisioned with EVDO services in the first place. If it didn't provision or if it's Disabled, you won't get an EVDO signal. The same is true if you aren't in an EVDO-capable area. There are also areas that are EVDO capable, but one of the towers may not be.

if you had a phone with Regular Vision and changed to a phone with Power Vision, they need to reset your Sprint Provisioning account from their end (and not just have you reprovision). This removes some sort of "Regular Vision" flag and lets you provision Power Vision as expected.

Note: Vision is the older protocol, which is slower but has greater coverage. You cannot receive incoming calls when you are connected to internet with the old Vision plans, however. The icon will be green arrows beside your signal chart. Power vision (or EVDO) is the newer protocol which is faster but has limited coverage in some area -- you can check your data network coverage map from sprint.com, and you can receive incoming calls when connected to internet. The icon will have a blue triangle. Refer to your user guide for more info.
