![]() | Wondering which email application for Roadrunner on Vista Windows Mail First time poster here and this is a great site. I had a friend set up my email on my new Centro. I have Roadrunner that I view on my home PC (Windows Vista) via the installed windows mail application instead of outlook and on the Centro he set it up on Versa mail. The problem is that I seem to receive mails just fine but can't send any because it always fails and if I go to sent items it gives an error. My real question is am I supposed to be using Versa mail or should I be using Sprint Mobile email? The owners manual isn't clear to me but does make me believe that the SME is only for emails through yahoo.com, hotmail.com, etc. Any help with this would be great. Also do you guys have a problem with the battery draining severely when getting incoming emails using Versa mail? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You can use Versamail or SME, your choice. The problem with sending is that Time Warner, and most other ISPs, block the use of their SMTP (Outgoing mail) server, from mobile devices. You can use another SMTP server though, like Sprint's (smtp.a001.sprintmail.com) I'm not familar with SME so you may not be able to use that. Also I strongly recommend using either gmail or yahoo because if you change ISPs your mail and address would be lost. That's just me |

![]() | LotusLord thanks for the information on the outgoing server it is very helpful. I may try the SME (with the sprint server) to compare then make a decision on which to use. Thanks again. |

![]() ![]() | I agree with LL, I've made a post about it on this forum. My advice is to not use any ISP driven email, it's a barrier to exit and ties you to their system for sending and receiving. Instead go with gmail or yahoo both of which offer better service, enormous storage (6GB for my gmail) and totally ISP agnostic access - meaning you can send/receive mail from anywhere. I use Snappermail on my Treo700p for about 4 email accounts and never had a problem though Versamail works fine. Outgoing mail is always a problem - you've got two choices, use sprint's as above on your Treo or use gmails, hotmails or yahoos after you switch account. Regards, ~ Steph

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I like yahoo, because the web interface is nicer, even with the ads. It also has unlimited storage. I use gmail for my larger attachements. Keep in mind that I have an account with practically every provider, AOL, several yahoo, hotmail, att, work. |

![]() | Versa Mail First Time Post, Greetings. I happily used my treo 755 up until two days ago and then I switched to the Centro. I have had nothing but grief with the outgoing versa mail. Like the ohter poster I can recieve my mail I just cannot reply to it. I am using the same incoming and outgoing pop and smtp that I used on the 755. I just do not understand why I have this problem. I have spent several hours with Sprint, thye say the phone is working fine. Ihave spent an hour with ATT. I have changed port numbers, changed the smtp server, ect. Does any have any ideas? |

![]() ![]() | Hmmm, and you're authenticating with your ATT email address (as user) and password (as password) and using the same credentials for both incoming and outgoing right? ~ Steph

![]() | I have been on the phone with ATT. They swear they are not blocking any stmp ports. I have also been on the phone with Sprint Palm support. They have heard of several complaints with the Centro versa mail not allowing outgoing mail. I tried to reach Palm but they are currently unavailable. I think the Centro has a bug problem. You would think with the correct settings the versa outgoing would work. I did try something a little different. I did not chek the SSL for the out going, instead I left the authenication box checked and left the incorrect port number of 25 in place. It took awhile but an email actually got sent out. So I know the versa mail can send something out but it was very very slow to do it. With the correct settings it does nothing. I will let you know what Palm says. I am thinking I will reactivate my 755 and let them have the centro back. |
