![]() | I have my wife in my contact list under her name. When she texts me or call, she used to show up as herself. I recently added an new contact called ICE (In Case of Emergency) because I understand that some Emergency folks sometimes check that in peoples phones when needed. I added numbers for my parent who live in town, brothers and my wife, of course. Now, when some of those people call or text, Caller ID shows up as ICE instead of as their original contact name. Is there a way to assign a caller ID name for each contact as the default one even if the same number shows up uinder multiple contacts? Thanks to everyone for the continued input. ![]() |

![]() ![]() | It's an alphabetical thing... If you have 972-999-5555 as a number for John Smith and Jane Doe - when either one calls from 972-999-5555 your caller ID will always show Jane DOE because she's 1st in alpha order. I've never found a way to assign caller ID names, but maybe someone else here has or knows a trick we don't. I'd love to know that too! In the mean time, you might change the Emergency contact to be "Emergency-see notes" then add your names & numbers to the note on that contact. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Great suggestion jstant! I have personally looked for this in many phones (in real life I'm a Paramedic) and this is a great solution for our Treo's! ![]()

![]() | similarly , I use "ICE, see mom or home" no number is listed under the word ICE. the comma after the ICE, insures that word appears first when last names first filing is used. |

![]() | OK, at least I understand how the phone chooses the caller ID. All my family has a last name stating with T so ICE or Emergency will always come before that. The purpose of the ICE link is SIMPLICITY. While I totally agree that all the suggested work arounds are excellent, they require the EMT to know how to use/find the notes section or causes them to have to cross reference another number. This takes time in an emergency situation. In any case, there appears to be no way to actually assign caller ID's to specific names/numbers. Thanks to everyone for the info. I'll probably try the worrkaround suggested. |

![]() ![]() | I think, test it, but you have to many people on ICE. Leave your wife as ICE only and then everyone else normal. Test that and see if it works. If it does, then you have the dilemma of changing it for the sake of Caller ID or leaving it in case @forgot needs to look for an emergency contact. My wife is as ICE and her picture and caller ID come in fine. But she is the only one I have as ICE. |

I have a (what may be dumb ) question... Do emergency personnel specifically look for "ICE"? I guess I should brush up on my acronyms as it never would have occured to me to label this contact "ICE" and was just wondering if this is a practice I should change to. I've always just had mine under "Emergency". | |

![]() ![]() ![]() | No dumb questions!! ![]() We (at least I, and those I know) actually look for both "ICE" and "Emergency" or variations thereof.

![]() | ICE was a thing used by many public school systems (and others as well) for children to label their stuff. In Case of Emergency. |
