Treo 700p to Centro conversion

Hello all. I have a quick question. I am a 700p user and just purchased a Centro. I don't have much luck with hotsyncing due to the fact that I have an older Mac. So I use this handy little program called BackupMan. It works great. Has saved my arse more times than I can count. When I get my Centro, I'm thinking that I should be able to just transfer the info I currently have on my SD card in my 700P to the Micro SD in the Centro and do a restore. This should make my Centro just like my 700P currently is. Am I correct in assuming this? Also, do you think the programs I have purchese will need to have the serial numbers reinstalled or will they be fine still?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

-Chris

Ehhh..I'm a little hesitant to say this would work. In theory, with a shiny new Centro with no information on it, you should be fine. That said, there may be applications you have from your 700p that are incompatable with your Centro. Those could cause some issues. If you take the plung, let us know how it turns out.

Well, I will defiantely be trying this out. So I will let you know how it goes. Also, when you download software from the web is there a way that you can use your expansion card to do the installing instead of hotsyncing? I really should think about getting a new computer here at some point, but there has got to be a way to "manually" install software and what not. Due to the the non-functioning LED indicator light on the Centro (from what I've read), I will have to get me a copy of Butler.

I'll be paying attention too since my wife used a Treo 600 without syncing to a computer. (no cable) She told me she wants the data off the 600 and put on her new Centro ... so I'm pondering how to do that this weekend. (really she just wants the database from 'contacts.' What program would you recommend if I put it on an SD card then port to the new Centro either by micro-SD or sync via Palmdesktop?

If you have a computer without palm desktop you could install the desktop software sync to that and then synch that info to the centro without problems just follow the instructions that came with the centro for updating from a palm os device.

You could IR sync to pc/handheld

or bluetooth to your centro

The advise is appreciated, but not sure I can IR the entire database "contacts" file from the Treo 600 to the Centro? (When I get back to town I'll have to steal the phone from her and try it)

As for the sync ... I don't have a cable for the Treo 600 ... different connector I believe.

Hello again...

I just got my centro and copied the SD card from my 700p to the Micro SD of my Centro. Did a BackUp man restore and my new Centro has everything the the 700 P did. Smooth as silk. So that worked.

RichC...I use a program I got for like 15 bucks called BackUp Man. It's great. it automatically backs up my device every morning at 4am (you can set it to backup as you see fit). It's great. I just did a backup of my old device then restored on the new device.

I will be trying to get a few new programs and will be trying the ir and bluetooth methods. Thanks.

-Chris

Yes the 600 does have a different sync cable.

I believe the issue is syncing with an older (pre- OS X?) Mac.

Anyways, glad you got it work Chris, and welcome to Treonauts!
