New to Centro, please help...

Hi:

A friend just gave my mom their Centro.

A couple quick question.

How can I set it to have keysounds when hardware/keyboard buttons are pressed?

Ho can I delete the names/numbers in the "To:" field on new text messages (I mean when you click the small arrow next to To)?

What software do I need to Sync the phone to PC?

Why are the sounds so low when I press hardware keyboard to dial phone number, (system sounds are set to max volume)?

Does the Centro have T9 predictive text, or word suggestion feature? If so, how do I enable it? My mom is new to texting and is used to the Motorola Razr "recognizing" what she is typing.

Thanks!

Its been a palm issue in the earlier treos II thought the centro was better volume wise I know the pro is much much better almost too loud. Check and see if you have TTY hearing enabled that would have an effect on the volume.

Importantly, did you get the user manual along with the phone? I'd be as concerned about your mother having a solid resource at her fingertips whenever she has a question -- as I would be with getting an answer to your specific questions.

In the meantime, here are a few answers:

Volume settings for the phone are accessed by first activating the phone screen, then hitting the "drop down menu" button, selecting "Options" and then "Sound Preferences."

Palms' website offers several versions of Palm Desktop, which will essentially "mirror" your Centro to your desktop -- these are free. The act of synchronizing is called Hot-synching, and you just need a special cable to do that -- it may have come with the phone?

Personally, I just LOVE this aspect of the Centro (and all Palm's) because I spend a lot of time in front of the computer -- where I just as often need to access or input info to my Centro.

Good luck, and direct your mother here, so she can post whenever she has a question!

Hi:
Thanks for your replies.
I think a few things about my original post may have been misinterpreted.
The phone volume is not low. In fact, it is very loud. My problem is when numbers (as in phone pad) are pressed, the tone is very low. System volume is already set to max (as are all other volume options). Are the tones always very low?

Is there a way for the hardware keys to make sound when pressed? I currently own an HTC Fuze, which emits a click type sound when each key on the hardware keyboard is pressed (it can be set to on or off). I also used to own a Palm Treo 750, which also had key sounds for the hardware keyboard. It could also be turned on or off. Is this possible with the Centro?

Does the Centro have T9 predictive text input? This is a feature that even basic phones have. What I mean is when you start entering a few letters the phone guesses what you want to type, and gives you suggestions. Many times it is even smart enough to suggest words you have entered previously.

I also have one new question, Is there a way to set reminder tones for missed calls etc? What I mean is, on my phone, there is a way that if you have a missed call/voicemail/alarm etc, the phone will beep or vibrate every 5 minutes to remind you that you have a missed event. Is this possible on a Centro?

Thanks!

question 1 I am not sure I have never had centro so I am unsure. Question 2 I am not sure about but I dont think so my pro does not do that as far as I know. Question 3 there should be predictive text as far as locating contacts iot will pull up and take away or narrow the possibilities until you either find what you are looking for or it will say no matches. As to the last question I believe you should be able in preferences to set some sort of alarm or remionder as to missed events.

Re: Question 3

The Palm OS is designed as a platform to which you can
add features, by way of ad-on software... so yes,
there is a way to have the phone notify you of
received phone calls:

The program is called Attention Grabber
(download it here for free: attention-grabber.en.softonic.com/palm).

In addition to beeping at your preferred interval, this will activate
the tiny light on the face of the phone.

In addition to Attention Grabber, I regularly use:
Fuel Log (to track my car's mileage),
Card Reader (to store and access files on the optional, removable storage card,
and Teapot (a handy timer/reminder).

A program called Techsounds adds this and much more.

a program called Textplus adds this feature.

As akcaptre kindly suggested AttntionGrabber worked perfectly.

Thanks!
Anyway, I hope this helps out some other newbie
And thanks so much to those of you who replied!!
