Treo newbie

I have only had my treo 650 for a few weeks, but already love it. I have a basic question that I could use help with.

I am with Verizon, and have been using their "wireless sync" application to have emails sent to my mobile. I also constantly use my handheld's calendar function to update things as I learn about them. With Hotsync, Wireless Sync, and Manual updates, how do I keep my info current (and not duplicated 3 times)? I do not want them to all overwrite each other.... is making one the "master list" the best way, and if so, how?

Sorry if this is extremely basic, but I am trying to figure out the best way to coordinate the 3.

Thanks!

welcome to teronauts uncatc! We are glad you are here. I have been away from the treo 650 and palm os for about two years now and I am not sure how to do what you weant to do but it should be doable. I suspect that you can disable hotsync or at least turn it off of automatic and just do it when you want to do it. Are you using palm desktop on your computer? Or Outlook? If you are primarily using the handheld you should probably set your hot synch settings to handheld overwrites desktop I believe. If I am wrong somebody please correct me. I have always used outlook since the days of my palm IIIC .

Thanks for the quick reply! I debated Outlook vs Palm Desktop, and opted for the latter.

My laptop currently merges (i think) with the handheld. I need to check all my settings.

Which program is easiest (wireless sync vs plam desktop) to synchronize with, or should I shift mine over to outlook? There are almost too many options!

I'm not familiar with this "wireless sync" app that Verizon uses but I assume it acts like any email client app and let you "see" emails on your phone while leaving them on the mail server. That way Outlook on your PC while download the email with attachments, etc.. At least that's the way my SnapperMail does it.

Anyway, if you email from your desktop PC primarily, then I'd use Outlook, that way all the contacts, calendar, notes, etc... is intergrated and sync with the 650. Just set the Outlook conduits in HotSync to Synchronize files.

I don't know that you can use Wireless Sync with other apps, like Pocket Quicken, SplashPhoto, etc.., so you're going have to use the Palm Desktop to install/backup data and apps.

I use outlook and I am certainly used to it and it seems easier to me to do it that way I did it on my 650 and how my 750 is set uo right now. I dont use push mail right now I just retrieve it on the desktop in outlook via send/receive. Kind of old chool I know but it works and I can control what email gets on the 750 limiting it to what I need to look at away from the office and reply if necessary.
