![]() | Centro not Syncing Calendar with Outlook 2003 Hi! I just got a Centro yesterday, and I'm having some problems syncing with my work computer. I'm relatively new to Palm (I had an M100 about 8 years ago). I previously had a window smartphone, and I've had my fair share of activesync issues, so I was hoping that palm might be simpler. I think I may have been wrong in that assumption... When I first tried to sync to Outlook, Hotsync got "stuck" when syncing the calendar. I eventually cancelled on the phone, but it was frozen, so I had to do a soft reset. I also had to go into the Task Manager on my PC and shut down Hotsync. I then tried only syncing the contacts, tasks, and memos to Outlook, and that worked fine. In changing a bunch of settings, I somehow ended up getting some appointments in my calendar, but unfortunately, I don't remember how. I also never got a successful sync message when I had the calendar sync selected. I've tried syncing a number of times since then, and it hasn't worked. I've already tried uninstalling and installing the software a bunch of times, restarting my computer, reconnecting the device, and everything else the palm hotsync support suggested. Any ideas on what I should try next? Also, can anyone explain the difference between the Calendar (Outlook) and Date Book (Outlook)? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | welcome to treonauts megan sorry its under these circumstances. What sort of device di you have before the centro. It sounds like you migrated some no palm programs into your centro somehow and thats what has meesed it up or you installed some third party software which messed up your sync conduit settings. get back with us and answer these questions and we'll see what we can do to get you going in the right direction. |

![]() | More info Thanks for the response! Here's some more info on my previous syncing devices: I was using Microsoft Activesync to sync my Cingular 2125 to Outlook. I synced the calendar, contacts, tasks, and mail (sometimes). Activesync is still installed on my PC, but it has not been activated since I got my Centro, so I don't think that caused the problem. Most of the problems that I previously encountered with Activesync had to do with my company's firewalls and antivirus. When I had Activesync issues, the device wouldn't even connect. Since I am getting the Centro to connect and sync some of the info, I'd like to assume that firewalls are not my problem. I also briefly had a Samsung A737, before realizing that I really wanted the functionality of an actual smartphone. I was using Samsung PC Studio software to sync my contacts, calendar, and tasks. The Samsung calendar feature ran out of memory, so it truncated some of my calendar appointments. Could that have been the problem? I did try to follow the advice from another thread to try TealScan. I fixed the issues it found, and it still gets caught up on syncing the Date book. I also noticed on some other posts that sometimes the log helped people figure out issues. My latest log shows that I aborted the sync (because it was taking forever!), but it does have some other things that I don't understand that may be helpful to a more experienced user. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Megan, Go into the desktop Hotsync icon and hit settings > applications > and then uncheck Datebook. Then try to Hotsync. Hopefully it will hotsync all the way through. Then go back into applications and make sure Datebook is checked and Hotsync again. Sometimes that is enough to get it working again, especially if you fixed any corrupted data. If that doesn't work, then go back into Hotsync icon > settings > applications > configure and set handheld to over-ride desktop. By the way, welcome to Treonauts. Sorry your first couple posts are about an issue already. Stu |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It sounds like there may have been issues arising out of the switch from a wm device to palm. Just like switching from palm to wm things have to be done to keep wm and palm os from interacting badly. programs with different os on the same device are a recipe for issues! |

![]() | Still not working... Stu, tried you're advice, but unfortunately it didn't really work. It's still getting hung up when I'm syncing the calendar. After I abort the sync (after waiting awhile), I see that some of the calendar entries have transferred to my palm, but some have not. When I try syncing again, I'm getting a bunch of duplicate entries. I now have 3 duplicates for each entry, and the entries that I've entered on the palm have not tranferred to my Outlook. I certainly won't be forgetting those appointments! It seems like something is still very wrong, but I don't know what. jfa02, you mentioned that this might be a result of something leftover by my switch from WM. My previous WM smartphone was pretty basic, and I only connected it to my PC to sync to Outlook. I tried uninstalling ActiveSync to get rid of any remnants from that sync relationship, but it didn't seem to change anything. You mentioned that "things have to be done to keep wm and palm os from interacting badly." Is there anything else I can do to get rid of any WM remnants? Thanks again for the ideas! I really like the Centro, and it's been fun to work with except for the whole syncing problem. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | After you unchecked Datebook, did it sync all the way through, by skipping the calendar? By the way, I'm glad you still have your sense of humor. For now, don't worry too much about the duplicate entries. Let's get through the Hotsync issue first. The duplicates are not that difficult to handle. |

![]() | Calendar unchecked, but no option for datebook Last week I was able to check the Calendar and the Datebook under applications, and it synced fine. I just tried to do that again, just to make sure it still worked. I unchecked the Calendar, but there was no option for Datebook. When I synced, it skipped right past the calendar, synced the contacts, tasks, and memos, then got stuck on Datebook. Why is the Datebook option there sometimes, and not there others? How do I turn it on and off? BTW, I now have 4 of every entry. Laughing at things like that usually help me to get through the frustrating problems ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I believe TealScan will remove the dups for you. If not there is another app called undup or something like that, that will do it. Back to the hotsync issue. Have you changed your Palm desktop at all? Usually it gives you a choice between address or datebook (they are the same function, but I think the older palm desktops used the name, Datebook), but not both (although the phone uses the terms interchangably). However, if you added a new desktop without completely getting rid of the old one (I did this once and was very confused for a while), then obviously it could cause problems. Have you looked at Palm's site? They have a rather extensive Hotsync troubleshooting area, that may be helpful. I wish I could be more help, but I don't sync to Outlook. |
