64 bit Windows not supported by Palm

How many people have or are considering a 64 bit Windows OS?

My company has dozens (maybe more than 100) Palm users (Treos, PDAs, etc) and we've just learned from Palm that they have no plans to release a 64 bit Windows Vista driver for USB connectivity. Palm's statement to us is that they don't see a great enough need and have not received enough complaints to warrant to creation of a 64 bit Windows USB driver.

Basically, the only method of synching is over Bluetooth or IR. Neither of these are really acceptable, especially when synching documents, calendar, address book, multimedia, etc.

Anyone else had this issue?

I thought of running Windows XP 64bit when it came out, but lack of driver support stopped me.

My company and myself have put our complaint in, because we are inevitably going to have many Palm users on 64 bit Windows.

Kind of reminds me of the current Vista issues and manufacturers who refuse to either create Vista drivers or create quality drivers compatible with Vista. Do they think they can make Vista go away? Of course not. One would think the manufacturers would have learned their lesson with Win XP.

Thanks for the reply.

As of now there is no reason to be running the 64 bit version of Windows...

Wow. There is actually plenty of reason to run 64-bit software, but probably not on a home computer.

Here's on of many sources of available software:

Catalogue of 64-bit Software

Thanks for you personal opinion, I guess. Please read my first post, because I have already stated there is a reason to use 64-bit software.

What I meant, and I apologize for the brief nature of my previous post, is that the 64 bit versions of Windows are not ready for prime time, especially in businesses that rely on compatibility with old software. The increase in security is great, but the incompatibilities will cause problems for Microsoft's biggest business, companies upgrading. This is the case with Vista in general, but 64 bit is worse.

All of the home users I know, and there are at least 3, who got the 64 bit version of Vista have been greatly disappointed in the lack of drivers for their printers, scanners, cameras, etc.

Is there a reason to use 64 bit software? Yes for some businesses there is, but for most users, it's not worth the frustration at the moment.

No problem.

And yes, we have a large number of users with video/graphics software that utilize 64-bit. 99% of those folks are very gadget oriented, so this becomes an issue since I oversee the IT environment and highly recommend Palm stuff.

Thanks and no offense meant.
