Unhappy Unable to initiate HotSync operation due to system error

I have a Treo 680 and used to sync using the USB cable to my old Dell Laptop without any issues. Recently I switched to a new laptop (installed Palm Desktop) and when I press the button on the cable to commence the Sync the "Hot Sync Progress Window" (so I guess there are no issues with the cable) is displayed on the laptop and the Sync operation is aborted with the message "operation due to system error" on the 680. I checked the user name on the desktop and on the palm they are the same. Has anyone faced this in the past?

doesyour new laptop use Vista OS? You need to have the palm os that works with vista if you do make sure you have that software that could be causing the problem!

If the usb cable is going bad or not seated properly it might be causing a problem. Are you using a usb hub or are you plugged into the front ports of a desktop. Sometimes the power from the computer to a hub (without ac power) is not sufficiently stable or powerful enough and may cause errors. Have you checked to make sure that your conduit settings are properly configured?

For some mysterious reason the Hot Sync has began working again without me having to do anything.

Sometimes HotSyncing (and really syncing in general) can be a black art. Requiring several chants before working.
