New Desktop - Archive function does not work

Really need some help here.. have searched high and low and posted elsewhere with no replies, even at Palm.

Bought a new computer with Vista and so had to upgrade to the new Palm Desktop 6.2.1. I understand it is beta, late coming and all of that, I am not complaining because of the lack of some bell or whistle here and there. But a critical function simply does not work, and worse even erases important data.

Here is the problem I discovered:

When you delete a contact or memo from the Treo and choose to save to the archive, it saves the record or records you recently deleted to the archive file.. but it does not ADD them to the appropriate archive file as it should do and has done for years, it ERASES the old archive file and all of your data and your archive file will only have the recently deleted records.

Example: I had 20 old memos in my memopad archive file on the desktop. I deleted one memo from my Treo and chose to save it to the archive. After the hotsync there was only one record in the archive file, not 21 as there should have been. The hotsync process did not add the recently deleted record to the archive file, instead it overwrites the archive file with any new records you are deleting and archiving, wiping out all of your old archived records!

I tested this numerous times with memopad and contacts (address.aba) and the same thing happens every time. It is ridiculous.

Surely other people use the archive feature to save some important memo, address, todo and calender records to the desktop for reference, right? I can not imagine I am the only one with this problem.

Any help and solution would be great, thanks.

At least, someone with the new desktop try to verify what is happening, so I do not think I am crazy anymore: go to your memopad.mpa file and check how many records you have in the archive and which ones. Then delete a memopad record from your Treo and sync. Then go to memopad.mpa and see if you have all the old archived records plus the new one, or if the same thing happens to you and you have only the newly deleted record or records in your fiule, and have lost all of your old data.

Again, the same thing happens to contacts and the address.aba archive. Am afraid to even check the TODO and calendar archives yet until I figure out how to stop this.

Thanks
