![]() | HotSync Help Needed. Hello All. I am hoping that someone will be able to help me. I am unable to HotSync my Treo 680. I go to HotSync, and I get this message... "HotSync Problem" "Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application" **I have tried disconnected the USB Cable and I have even gone as far as shutting down my computer and trying to HotSync again to no avail.** Hopefully someone will be able to help me. Thank you (in advance). Last edited by k7brown; 03-18-2007 at 07:21 PM. |

![]() | Hi k7Brown welcome to Treonauts I was wondering if you have installed any updates on your computer recently? This can sometimes affect hotsync operations, so you might need to remove the update. I had a similar problem years ago with an old palm that wouldn't sync I ended up having to use a serial cable to connect to the PC. Hopefully you won't neeed to do that, you might how ever need to reinstall the palm desktop, if the troubleshooting guide that alex has linked you to doesn't work then i'd try reinstalling the desktop. Firstly you need to make a copy of your backup folder and place it somewhere safe. Uninstall all of the palm files making sure that there aren't any odd files lurking and then do a new clean installation of palm desktop.

![]() | First off, thank you alex and kimmy for offering some advice. Alex, I tried to follow the instructions that you linked to, and I cant seem to get that to work. I am able to get to double click on the ports, but there is no "Advanced" Button to click on. Kimmy, right now, I am a little hesitant of completely uninstalling my Palm Desktop. I am just hoping that I dont have to resort to that. And to answer your question, no I did not install any updates recently on my computer. I just remembered that I was trying to sync my Pocket Tunes with my Windows Media Player a little while before I tried my HotSync. Could this be where my problem lies??? If so, how can I fix that? |

| Regular Contributer ![]() | Yes, syncing Pocket Tunes to WMP could potentially be the cause. You should make sure that your Treo is being detected as a Palm device instead of an MTP device in the Device Manager. Take a look at the following article. 'MTP Media Player' window opens on desktop PC when Treo 700p smartphone is connected to USB sync cable I know that you have a 680, but this article shows you where to look in Windows for what I'm referring to.

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Please advise on best course of action Hi, I happened to stumble on to this particular thread and it tackles my problem. I also have the problem with the MTP. I followed one of the links to the palm support site and it did not work becuase in the Hardware Update Wizard I could only select the MTP Device and NOT the Palm Handheld. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Alex B. |

| Regular Contributer ![]() | When you went through those steps, did you make sure that Pocket Tunes wasn't running on the Treo? Here are another set of instructions for fixing the MTP problem. Treocentral Wiki - Why is my Treo recognized as an MTP Device?
