Unable to Install Palm Desktop / Hotsync - Treo Forum

Hey all...

Hopefully this is in the right place.

Just installed Vista Build 6000 on my system and the Palm Desktop (414e) is not installing onto my system. The setup is able to unpack all the software but when the install starts, a module of the program crashes and the setup program finishes without installing anything.

With the CD that came with the Treo I can install the Desktop (not sure what version it is) but the setup crashes when it gets to the point where Hotsync tries to setup for the first time. After that I can't get the Treo to hotsync and the Palm Desktop crashes when I attempt to run it.

Any suggestions as to what I could do?

Palm Desktop does not support VISTA yet. Palm website advises you not to install VISTA if you need to sync with your Treo.

Is there any word on when we will be syncing in vista?

From the Palm support site (found here) you can install and sync to Vista if you use the Desktop build versions 4.1.4e and 4.2. Read the gray box in the link above for more information.

I'm not please with the inability to sync now that I'm running Vista. So far I'm doing ok with the new OS ... I actually sort of like it? Unfortunately until a few software apps are Vista compatible, I'm going to be grumbly.

I'm running Vista with a treo 650. It will sync the palm address book,calender,memo's, ect...
It just won't let you load software unless you load it to your SD card first and then install it from the card.

Yeah, Palm hasn't built an update of the QuickInstall app that will work with Vista....
