lost my messages (SMS)

so, I found this morning that All my sms messages on my treo are gone.
If I do a hotsync, and have the backup 'desktop overrides Handheld'
Would that put all my history SMS messages back on my treo?

I wonder if I accidentally did this with my phone by not paying attention when deleting 'one' message, maybe I did all???
