Everything you wanted to know about Resets but were afraid to ask.

After searching high and low on the Palm website, I found a very good description for the four main types of resets and some other types for specific Palm devices. A couple items to note. The reset type that would restore a device to factory specifications used to be called a zero-out reset, but is now called simply, ....wait for it....a factory reset. The way to accomplish this reset has been simplified by simply entering a password in the security app on your device and then performing a hard reset. Somehow this cues the device to completely wipe the device. I used to give people a link to MTDN's description for resets, but someone pointed out that because they were written for an older device, (which had a reset button), that it wasn't much help for people with newer devices. This new Palm link does a good job for giving one link for people with pretty much any model Treo.

Resetting your device (Soft, System/Warm, Hard, In-Cradle, Power Down, Battery Disconnect, Zero Out)

Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you. Best wishes.

Stu

Disregard. I found it. I am using Launcher X and for some reason it does not display when in the launcher.

Thanks again stu...my only problem is that I don't have a reset button on my 755p or at least i can't find one.

I did take out the battery and that worked for my setting up the jabra so i thank you so much for that.

For some reason I have a lag time when I text now, sometimes i look down and it's frozen and then it catches up, any suggestions for this one? sheesh it never stops(the questions) huh lol.

Thanks

Hi Shell,

There is no reset button on the 755p. If you go to the link above and read the article it will tell you how to do warm, hard and factory resets on any given device. Taking the battery out and putting it back in is called a soft reset, so you did that one already. Two things will cause your device to lag or get a white screen....a full memory cache and a lot of apps running in the background (which often leads to the full memory cache). A hard reset will generally speed things up a bit for a time (always backup everything before doing any resets), but generally the lags return unless you figure out what apps are causing the lag. Don't worry about asking questions. That is what this forum is here for...that and the phone names thread.

Thanks again stu, I really don't have much on my phone and what i do have has been on there for a few months, I only find a lag time when i'm trying to text.

I did go to that web site and try the soft reset, ill see what happens and if it still lags I will try the hard reset, i hate to do that but if i have to I will.

Thanks again,
Shellster

Hmmm, not sure why that would slow things down. In any event, you'll need to know about resets at some point, so...now you know where to look ; )

I have had the same problem on my 755. It will happen out of the blue. One thing that I have started, habit forming, is to purge my text messages and then performing a soft reset. It seemed to help. Another application that started to slow my text down was Battery and BatteryGraph. I had them installed to see my battery performance. They worked great but really bogged down my 755. I uninstalled them and everything seems to work ok now.

So, even though you haven't added any software lately, there may be something bogging down your Treo.
