FlushIt! v1.1

Hi Ya all,

Found a FREE application today. It is called flushit. " This program tries to free as much DB Cache memory as it can on every user defined event.

It can be:
- App start (it means any application)
- App stop (it means any application)
- Hotsync
- Power off

Make backup first. Can cause resets with some software."

Okay,

First, I use Battery Graph so I can keep an eye on my battery usage etc. Since installing this application, my battery drained from 100% to 46%. This is with heavy usage, PTunes, Kinoma Player, and Internet Browsing. I also made 3 phone calles that added up to approximately 1 1/2 hours. (MOM) haha.

Second, I did have my bluetooth on the entire time and did not use my camera. My backlight is set to about 50% and my beam is off.

According to the Author's website, this app is supposed to free up as much DB cache memory (as stated above in quotes). I have it set up to do it thing whenever I start an app and on hotsync. I know that I have had less lock ups! My programs respond waaayyyyy faster! And, eventhough it is not stated on the authors website, my battery life has improved, tremdously!

My educated guess it less apps running or trying to do what ever it is they are supposed to do when you don't want them to do the dew! phewwww.

Obviously, whenever installing an app you take the risk and always, always backup your phone.

I wish I knew how to post the data from Battery Graph on here and I would be able to show the improvement. It is 8:55 p.m., and my phone has been of the charger for 14 hours I have 46% now. Not bad.

Here is the link to the flushit. Freeware Palm: FlushIt! v1.1

Here is the link to Battery Graph Freeware Palm: BatteryGraph v1.21

*Note: I've been using battery graph for six months. The more days of Data saved, the slower it works. I usually keep about 2 days worth of Data at any given time.

Okay another tidbit about this. According the application, I have 18mb for cached app memory. When flushit is off, I have 14.4mb available with 14.07 mb cluster( I don't know what the last means.) I tried to run as many programs as possible, to include camera, ptunes, downloaded video from Kinoma Player, dbscan, batterygraph and my cached memory dropped to about 12.9 mb. Then, I turned on flushit and set to run when starting an app. I ran it once and went through and started the same programs. Afterwards, I checked and I had 17.7 mb of DB cached memory available to the system.

Now, I don't know much about Palm's use of cache, but on a PC this would be great news! THe only issue I have found is that when trying to start up IM+, my messaging app, I get a soft reset. I have sent this to the developer of flushit in hopes that he will fix the bug. I am telling you, this works great. Witht the exception to IM+, all other apps runs faster. I will now take my phone off the charger, 4:55 a.m., AZ time.

See ya all in the evening.

Okay, as stated above, I took my 700P off the charger at 4:55 a.m. It is 8:40 p.m. and this is the following: My battery is at 32%. I made 34 phone calls for a total of 93 min. Keep in mind that I am roaming most of the day until I get home. I used Ptunes for approximately 40 min. and had bluetooth on all day, until about 7:00 p.m. I was able to use IM+ but only after I disabled the Flushit to only operate on my command (push the button on the main app screen). I was also on the internet for approximately 25 min.(continous)

One other problem other than IM+. For some reason my headset would not connect to my Treo. It would recognize a headset, but when I would place a call, it would not go through the headset. I disabled flushit (had it to where it would work on my command only), reset the phone and then it connected. I don't know if this is the problem, but I will try again tomorrow.

Batterygraph showed 100% 4200mV. Right now 33% 3710mV.

When flushit was disabled system showed: DB cache memory 18mb, 12.4mb available and 14.02 mb cluster(don't know what this means). Applications did show a slight delay, especially Batterygraph.

When flushit was enabled system showed: DB cache memory 18mb, 17.3 available and 4.03 mb cluster. Application responded very fast, almost no delay, and batterygraph was quick also.

I am no engineer, but if someone can explain in laymen terms I would be more awed by this. But, knowing a tiny bit, I think it is a great improvement in response time.

Well, I hope this confused you less than I when typing it. I will continue to experiment with this. Any suggestions are welcome, tremendously.

Slowrain2u is on a distinguished road
I flushed it.

I tried this program and it worked for about a day (although I didn't see a speed improvement...actually it was slower because you have to wait for it to "flush" if you have it set to do so when you change from one application to another), on my unit it caused the screen to flicker with a horizontal bar as it was doing it's thing. End result was that going from one application to another was faster without it than it was with it.

Then I must have used a piece of software that didn't agree with it and I got 2 soft resets inside of 20 minutes, the second one some how left all my other software as if I just installed it, asking for registration numbers, etc. I saw flushit causing screen flickers even though I had the thing shut off. Sorry...this software is a piece of junk, at least for my treo! Prior to this I had used all my installed software without so much as a glitch.

Thank goodness I have resco installed and I just did a restore and it all came back. (So glad I have it...this happened while I was at work and my sync computer is at home)

The first thing after that was to flush flush'it, and surprise....no more problems.

FYI...I have an unlocked Treo 680 with the following installed in addition to the normal treo software:

Resco
Documents to Go ver 9
3Xcom
Filez
Bejeweled2
BDictionary
BugMe
Butler
CleanUp/Uninstall/Onguard
Clock Wireless
Diagrams
Files (Palm Software)
eWallet
Google Maps
ListPro
Proj@Hand MSP
ProStats
Phone Technican
Ptunes (full version)
TextPlus (full version)
Sysinfo

Be careful if you are using this thing...make sure you keep a current backup someplace!

Slowrain2u,

I am sorry to hear the issues you are having. So far the program has worked fine for me. The only issue is IM+, but for now I will leave it that way. I contacted the producer of the flushit software and advised him of my issue. As you can see from my previous posts I am still testing the software. Obviously there is an issue on your phone and I apologize for that.

But.....here are my numbers for today. Unplugged my phone at approximately 3:45 a.m. It is 7:39 p.m. and I have 37% juice left. I made 31 phone calls for and approximate time of 69 minutes. I used the website for approximately 45 minutes and used Ptunes for approximately 35 min.

Bluetooth worked fine. I don't know if the soft reset I had yesterday fixed a conflict or what....but it works fine. I am still having an issue with IM+. My phone has a very rapid response when accessing applications. I tested it with Flushit off and on and the response is very noticeable.

I know that the TT and 650 and......(according to the web page) are covered. I don't know if any other phone might not be supported yet.

Once again, if you add the program, backup and you are taking a risk. As with any app you are adding, there could always be an issue. But for my 700P, the difference if very noticeable in speed and battery usage.
