Software licenses - Do I need to rebuy?

I have searched around enough that I feel that either this hasn't been covered or is a stupendously dumb question. But I really want to know, so here goes:

If you buy licensed software for your Treo and end up getting a new device, do you need to re-buy the license for the software?

Example: Say you had the Treo 650 and you buy PTunes (or something) for use on your 650. A few months later, you get a new Treo (say, the 700!). Is it as easy as installing PTunes on the new device and inputting your same paid-for reg code, or do you need to buy a new license for your new device?

I haven't done this yet, but a new Treo may be imminent, and I hate to buy things more than once.

That really depends on the license agreement for each specific piece of software, most should be transferable

i wouldn't think you'd have to buy the s/w again, so long as you unreg the s/w if you sell your old pda, ie zero out your 650 before selling it.

remember that most software reg codes are tied to your user id name, so make sure that they are the same if you switch devices.

Definitely. I have reinstalled some apps purchased over a year ago that I wasn't using and when I sent my user ID to the company they just sent me a new unlock code. Personally, I wouldn't deal with a company that forced me to purchase their product twice (for the same user ID) just because I misplaced the unlock code. That would rank right up there with one of my other pet peeves - gift certificates that "expire"! (but that's a rant for another day... )

You don't use Microsoft products then

Really? I've never had occasion to experience that. (BTW - another reason I love my Treo is that I can actually get tech help from the person who wrote the program - eg. VolumeCare. And they don't make fun of us non-tech guys. How great is that! )
