Hidden (Private) Contacts - Show up in Caller ID!? - Treo Forum

Previously posted here, but really pertains to Palm OS in general, I suppose.

Not that I use private contacts, but I wanted to see how my phone would handle an incoming call from a contact who was put into my contacts as 'Private.' To my surprise, whether you have private contacts hidden or not, they show up in Caller ID and in SMS Messages as if they weren't private at all.

Anyone else notice this? Like I said, I don't use private contacts, but if I ever did, I'd expect them to come up as if they're not in my contact list at all (unless I'm my phone is set to show private info).

Sure your allowed to bump. I don't have any of my contacts set to private so I haven't noticed this, but I might do it just to see if I see the same thing.

i've got a nokia n70 phone, i keep get prank calls from private numbers which dont show the number, is there any software out there which i can download and use to view the actual number of the caller ??? thanks, if there is plz let me know -

Maybe a forum which specializes in Nokia's and symbian apps would be able to help you.

Yeah. that's a little random. This thread is a question about a behavior in Palm Treo phones.

Also, if a number is coming up "private" in your caller ID, then the phone system isn't even SENDING the caller's information, and therefore you can't find out who it is. Even the phone company couldn't - without a warrant.

Similar problem, which I've noticed, too. Private contacts may show up in SMS Messaging, while some NON-private contacts may NOT show up. I am yet to find the logic as to which show up and which don't.
