![]() ![]() | WebOS, will it ever... ...be found on a Treo? I've been away from the Palm world for a while. Last I knew the breakdown was a follows: Centro: staying PalmOS as a cheap entry model phone Treo: moving entirely to WinMo with the 680 being the last POS version New Palm Device: would contain what was dubbed NOVA at the time Now I come back and see not only is Nova officially called webOS but it is on a device and on the market. The problem is I hate slider phones and the Centro is just to small. I love my 680 but am fearing the day it needs to be replaced (which is a long time off but always only one bad day of butterfingers away). While I know things can always change I am wondering if there has been any inkling that future Treos will come with a webOS capability or has Palm remained set in the path listed above?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Actually, the 680 was three Treo models behind the last POS Treo, which was the Centro. The 700p, the 755p, and the Centro all came out after the 680, if I remember correctly. As for your question, it is anyone's guess, particularly now that Palm has a new CEO. Colligan had said that Palm OS would stick around about a year ago, but a couple months ago Palm announced that the Centro will be EOL'd this summer, meaning the end of the POS line. There is a successor to the Pre allegedly coming out in the Fall called Pixie / Eos. The future of WinMob in Treos is also questionable. The 800w was quickly EOL'd in favor of the Pro, which, although a good product, had problems with cracks. Not sure if Palm will stay with WinMob or just move completely to the WebOS.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Glad you are back irish the eos (castle) is a candy bar format device running webos and rumored out sometime in late 09 or sometime in 10 but who knows. I am with you on the slider format but who knows when it come out in gsm I amy jump anyway. The Eos as rumored now will be a lower res screen and less memory only 4gb as opposed to the 8gb of the pre That would be OK if the eos came with a memory card slot of some size. But no. |

![]() ![]() | Thanks for the responses. Like I said, Im not looking to dump the 680 anytime soon, Im still in love with it being my first smart phone (you always remember your first, lol). I was mainly curious because after watching the videos and reading up on the Pre it does look like a nice interface, I just cant stand slider phones. I would assume something will be done beyond WinMo in the Treo or Treo-like casing since that general size and shape is the standard for smart phones (oe. BB, BJ, Epix, etc etc with subtle variation). I feel like there is so much to catch up on.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think the new webOS apps will be pretty lean as well. Remember, they are written like web pages which, although sometimes crap laden, are pretty lean themselves. The point of the OS is that it fetches (most) everything from the internet. Even the apps on that phone by Dole or whoever don't take up too much space, and they are very flashy.

I also need to get a new digital TV tuner card, since my 19" Sony LCD monitor is WAY better than my 23" CRT TV. Linux handled that with a smaller app, too. ![]() | |
