![]() | pTunes vs. iTunes vs. iPod Hi All, I have a a 700p and was wondering about starting to use it for a MP3 player. I've seen that several people have had some gliches with the transfers. I've only downloaded 2 songs (from W-mart) and the rest came off my CDs. I have the music in iTunes on my pc (XP) but would be willing to change over to a different program if needed. What palm software do you all recommed? Or should I just buy an iPod? I'd love to stay with my treo and only have one thing to carry (why I bought it in the first place) I'm looking to use earbuds and a FM transmitter (recommendations?) for my main playback. I'm fairly computer savy, but this is my first big venture into MP3s.Thanks for the advice. |

![]() | Hi psychick....you sound like a girl after my own heart (based on your screen name). Welcome to Treonauts! ![]() As for music, I use my Palm devices as my mp3 player. I use iTunes on my computer and PTunes deluxe on my TX and Treo 755p. I simply drag and drop the music files into folders I create on my card and play them via Ptunes. mOcean will allow you to sync your playlists and music files directly with your Palm device. I have friends who use it and are very pleased with it. I happened to buy PTunes deluxe first and don't use a lot of "playlists" so simply transferring a whole bunch of cds is just fine with me. I have a few playlists, Christmas music, work out "jams," etc. Hope that was helpful! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Itunes won't work with Pocket Tunes without converting them first. I read a post (might've been on this forum) that you could get them to work by renaming the files. When I get home, I'll do a search and see if I can find the post and post it here. IMHO, an Ipod is going to give you better quality, but will also cost you at least the price of another smartphone. PTunes is a decent media player. There are others (MMPlayer, mOcean, The Core Pocket Media Player - whose developer recently decided to abandon the Palm OS, and Kinoma are probably the biggest names). But since Ptunes comes with most Palm phones, it will suit you fine. The Palm phones come with a 2.5 jack, so you need to make sure of two things when looking for a headset (earbuds): 1) That either you have a 2.5 headset or a 3.5 headset with a 2.5 adaptor. 2) that the stereo adaptor will work. A fairly new app that helps in this regard is Freedom, but I don't know a lot about it. The reason I mention the app, is that with multiple adaptors, you start losing sound quality and I got the impression this app may be a work around all the adaptors. Another way to go is to get a bluetooth headset, but then you'll need to get Softick Audio Gateway. |

![]() | Most of the music in iTunes are my own cds that I simply store there so DRM is a nonissue for me. Also, for the music I buy from there, I always immediately burn onto a cd and then import back into my iTunes collection (replacing the purchased copy) thus removing DRM. Edit: Maybe it's just an Alltel thing, but my 755p came with Palm earbuds (that I can also use as a wired headset). So I didn't have to worry about buying any and being certain of the proper size, etc. I use them all the time. I'm considering, though, purchasing Soft Stick's app and Moto's S9 bluetooth headphones. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OHD's wealth of knowledge for a new user astounds me. Yes, it was the DRM issue that I was trying to remember. Here is a couple posts to look through on the subject: itunes Don't feel like asking this apple question on an apple forumso i am asking it here. Evidently there are some ways of converting the files. |

![]() | Thank you for the kind words, but I'm only new to Treos so I know a little bit about stuff. BTW, this link to the hack is awesome. Thanks for posting that second thread and bringing it to my attention, I had never looked in there! |

![]() | Great! Thanks. Now just sounds like I need to get a larger SD card (my 1G already has somesoftware on it) and decide where to go with the software.stuartrayner-thanks for the pointer about the 2.5m jack. I was in a store today and the kid told me I needed a 2.5m jack and then kept trying to sell me 3.5m headsets. Is iTunes the only download site with the DRM conflict? Can I download from say Yahoo!, etc. without having to burn and rip back? Have either of you used a FM transmitter with your treo? I'd love on that charges too but I don't know what is available. Thanks again. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well the other issue you have to worry about is that Ptunes won't play any music that may be viewed as pirated music. Therefore, its kind of hit and miss with downloads, even if you paid for them. Hence OHD's workaround. |

![]() | Does pTunes allow me to create playlists? Or is it just easier to put my "playlists" together as different folders and play the lists that way? |
