Gmail Now Free Imap!!! - Treo Forum

Today, there was a "New Features" link on my web-based gmail account and I clicked on it to discover that I now can use my Versamail to read gmail via IMAP.

There are no notes on support for Versamail or Treo, but if you follow the instructions for "other" clients, you can be up and running.

This would work better if you had a new gmail account, just because to get all of your older email onto your phone, you'd have to mark all of your mail unread and then do a bunch of screen taps to get all of the old mail onto your phone.

I had about 150 old emails and being a curious type, it took me about 400 screen taps to get everything loaded.

So, you can still get to your gmail via your smartphone's web browser, but now you can use your email client to get them too. I find it handy to have that available.

gmail has had IMAP for a few months now. There were some problems with setting it up in versamail, that older versions didn't support it properly, but the newest version (included with the Centro) does.

Unfortunately there are still issues with the latest version of Versamail (from the Centro) and Gmail IMAP. See this thread for more info: Gmail IMAP on Versamail: some messages get header only

I have switched to Chatter because of these issues, and have very good success.

It hurts but at least they'll be getting used.
