| Junior Member ![]() | Any one have recommended 3rd party email filters? (Sorry, subject should read "Can anyone recommend 3rd party email filters?" Hi- I have been playing around with both Snappermail and Chatter mail on my Treo 650. Both are very good. However, neither one of them has email filtering. My ISP marks spam as [SPAM], but leaves it my inbox and them my desktop machine filters it out. I would configure something on the server-side, however, that's a no-no to my ISP. I would have a copy of my mail fowarded to a gmail account, or something similar, however, that seems like a bit of a hassle. I understand the reasons why they don't have a filter in the software, so I was wondering if there are any 3rd party clients (or plug-ins) that supported filtering and/or could learn what is spam and/or only mail what is in my contact list so that I am not wasting bandwidth and flash card space with useless spam? Thanks! Last edited by yosarian; 06-26-2007 at 02:50 PM. Reason: note about subject |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | I've spent about an hour doing various searches in the forums with no luck. I have a customer with a new 755p using the versamail that came with the phone. The company uses yahoo email services (I advised them to change; but no luck) and yahoo does the same thing as yosarian. When yahoo see a message thought to be spam it places '[bulk] at the beginning subject line. This makes it easy to filter on the desktop; and still allow them to mark users as 'not spam'. On the treo, the versamail 'filter' is more like a 'get only this stuff' type filter; not a 'don't get this stuff' filter. Am I wrong? The user gets about 100-300 junk emails a day ... and they ALL show up on the treo. Any suggestions as to a different email applicaiton to use? thanks! J |

![]() ![]() | I don't know of filtering software that will keep them from downloading altogether, but in the mean time regarding the Versamail filter: Your ISP marks these emails as [SPAM] or [bulk]. Two questions: 1) Is this the first word in the subject line of these emails? 2) Is this spam designation still visible when you receive the email message on your Treo? If the answer to these questions is yes and you use Versamail, you can create a filter (from within Versamail: Options> Preferenencs> Filters) that designates what should be done with incoming mail (i.e. move to Trash) with a subject line starting with or containing [SPAM] or [bulk] or whatever designates spam from your ISP. I have then Versamail set (Options> Preferenencs>Deletion) to auto-empty Trash immediately (there are other time-frames) |

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Appreciate your response(s). I had the following 'filter' setting setup : Only download email from the last 3 days. Any email with the word [bulk] in the subject to move it to the Bulk folder (I created). What it appeared to be doing is only downloading email with [bulk] in the subject and the moving them to the Bulk folder ; ignoring all other email (no other email would show up in the inbox; but the bulk folder would be full!). - Please verify: You have created a filter that can do the above or similar and still receive all other mail. It seems the 'filter' is more of a 'get only this stuff' ; not a filter that says; 'do this to my email once received'... The customer phone is not in front of me and sprint people she purchased it from said their is no answer. I don't accept that. John |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Just a quick question for clarification: Is your client getting email via POP3 or IMAP? Also, does your client want to be able to see any of the bulk emails, just in case they are wrongly accused?

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | pop3 email. yes they want to be able to see the junk email in case they are wrongly accused... To elaborate on current yahoo pop3 settings (and history) Previously yahoo pop3 with spam filtering would filter spam; but only on the web interface side. Outlook would pull it and had to rely on the spam filter in outlook (which was horrible).... A couple months ago I was revisiting the complaint about spam and saw the option to turn on the "add [bulk] to the subject line" - ... that was great. They were super happy (and so was I) ... a simple rule in outlook to move [bulk] in subject to junk email was setup and spam filter was worth a snot .... hope this helps and thanks for the inputs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Try setting up two filters. One, to download all mail marked as spam in to a junk folder, and another for all other. I remember doing this once in Versamail, though it was a while ago. I'll see if I can figure it out again.

![]() | No email visible in my inbox This seams to be very similar to a problem I am having with Versamail and my 700p. I press get all. It says it downloading email. My inbox is empty. I do have a filter set up. Did you ever find a solution? |
