Search??

Steph

Though I'd let you know that I seem to have a problem with the search function, when I go to search, it highlights it and then a box appears with google and the options of search google, search blog, search site and so on 4 options in total, trouble is when i go to put in a search it disappears.

Now this isn't always the case, occasionally when I go to search I can actually click on search and the options change to search forum or search posts and it will allow me to do this, can't understand why I get the 2 different search options ,one that works and one that doesn't, more often than not I get the one that doesn't when I need to do a search to check if something has already been posted or has been included in the blog.

any ideas???

Ah...

Well the search along the top (main) menu bar with Home, Software, Forum etc. is a drop down search box that you have to keep you mouse inside to keep on screen - like the rest of the menus.

It uses Google to search one of the four options in the box. It' snot a great solution I know but we're carrying content on about 4 systems right now and the only thing for us that can span that is Google.

The second search is a forum specific one and thats in what they call the navbar (the thing "Treonauts Forum > Other Areas of Interest > A place to test things out > Search?? " in it...) and it has two modes, quick - type in a terms in the box and hit go and advanced with many more options.

The second search is better (much better) for the forum than the first one. But the first one is available site(s) wide.

Hope that answers the question.

If you're having problems with the first one (main sitewide search) there's little I can do until i we starr unifying all the systems under one roof.

A handy thing I discovered recently is New Posts in the Nav Bar... though I really wish there was also a New Threads option too...
