Paper 3G iPhone released

So Apple has released the 3G iPhone, now it's half the price of the first model, I thought I'd play the devil's advocate and throw this to the forum.

Now the iPhone supports 7 separate Mobile frequencies, inbuilt wifi, Bluetooth 2.0, it might a device with the most radios ever housed.

What do you think? Are you planning to switch to the Apple iPhone, instead of waiting for Palm to release support for wifi on a linux based OS that would bring stability and useability?

cheers,

~zonman

meh. i'll stick with palm, for the time being. i played with an iphone the day they were released and i was totally unimpressed with it. the 'wow' factor was high, but i realized that even with all the iphone's capabilities, it's essentially just like a treo.

One of the strengths of the Treo is it's flexibility due to all the third party software available, whilst Apple have released an SDK it will be a while before we see the same level of third party support. Draw backs to the 3G iPhone are pretty much the same as with the previous one i.e. no memory expansion capability, no removable battery, a soft rather than hard keyboard, plus some shortcomings in the software.

It's not really cheaper, it's just subsidised now. They really didn't change much. It's slightly thinner on the edges, it has A-GPS, the back is plastic and it's 3G. Most of the other stuff is going to be added to the original iPhone with software v 2.0. It already had wifi and BT 2.0 (still no a2dp was reported).

Do I like the iPhone? Absolutely. I may even get one when my contract is up next year, but this is really a fairly minor upgrade in the grand scheme of things. Considering the price of the original, it should have had all these new features at the begining.

Switching to the iphone ? No , it simply does not work for me . I see it as a toy , no more . compare the iphone to the treo and treo comes on top .

I'd certainly play with it. I can't say for certain that I'd stick with it. Like I said, I haven't used it for more than a few minutes.

Of course I'll check out all the options next April. Hell I may end up going to Sprint. It's all about who will give me data for less than 20/month. Though I'd rather stick with GSM.

in all fairness, Apple revamped iPhone within a year, why cant Palm do the same?

Why does it take so long to create a linux based OS? If they lack the know how, they should partner with someone like google or whoever instead playing lap dogs with Telco carriers and remove features based on that.

I am losing patience with Palm, and I trust plenty of others are too also.

Today for the 100th time, someone called me on my treo 680, and I can't answer the call, the whole phone simply froze, no responses from button presses what a joke! Before you all start pounce on me, no I do not have any third party apps to interfere
