I have no idea I just found the story. I tgink there is only one palm os JVM and opera mini and other java apps require the one palm is offering.

If you want the jvm you can buy it on IBM's website.

Either IBM has asked them to stop supplying it or Palm aren't willing to continue paying the license fee, assuming there is one

I'm sure it will be made available in other places

I guess I'm not getting what the big deal is. I've tried OperaMini twice and both times I was able to download the Java virtual machine for free, from other sites. I didn't even know Palm offered it. Perhaps it won't be offered free anywhere, I dunno.

I searched for JVM on Isohunt.com and got JVM.ZIP 11.88 MB file. I downloaded it and it is the WEME file we are talking about. Version 5.7.

yeah the JVM in question is supplied by IBM, and Palm has notified both Opera and Google that they are no longer supplying the JVM on its web site. Both Opera Mini web broswer and Google Gmail app are java based.

I think this is a particularly bad move for Palm, especially considering the amount of softwares out there that are already written in java. I hate to point out the obvious, but take a look at Nokia which is openly embracing java, offering developers the possibilities to take full advantage of the platform.
