I disagree that making it open source is the way forward

I'd like to see them release it to the open source community after they release Palmix or what ever they call their Linux OS solution. Maybe make some 3rd party 650 Roms...

It's gotta be bigger..

Whether the backlash against Palm is justified or not, the fact is that people are looking at it as a defunct OS/Machine. If all they do is 'catch up' with everyone else, they will still be seen as lackluster and the 'Beta' of the Video tape wars.

At this point, Palm needs to come out with an event piece. iPhone was an event piece. Many people here have noted that the iPhone isn't even a Smartphone, but it was big enough to take away a huge market share (would have been bigger if it was a wider release on more carriers).

The 800 series MUST be a Nextgen model, beyond what anyone else has or has thought of, or the whole line is just going to drop away. Oh, and whether the new Palm OS is open source or not doesn't matter if no one cares to write programs for it.

That's just it, I think that more people would develop for it, provided it were open.

I agree that they need to make a big change to convince the world they are making the best smart phones around.
