Research In Motion, (RIM), have acquired Torch Mobile the developers that brought us the Iris Browser. Whilst this is good news for Blackberry users it's not for us Windows Mobile users as they are ceasing development of the WM version

I'm not sure I fully agree on that one. Just about every forum post I've seen comparing Blackberry to anything else all indicated web browsing was a huge Blackberry weakness. So, this is more catch up than take over. Generally, each platform has (to a certain extent) its own set of programming tools I'd suspect that it's the Torch Mobile programmers' browser expertise that was more important than the Iris Browser itself. And RIM certainly has no reason to support cross platform versions, when they just payed to catch up.

As for Skyfire, the last version of Iris still works in situations that Skyfire's proxying doesn't. Dorothy is supposed to be VGA only, but it runs nicely on the Treo Pro -- if you don't mind the controls taking up far too much screen real estate, with no way to make them disappear. And Dorothy is far too rudimentary to be anything but alpha. But there is a lot of promise -- enough to say that it may eventually surpass what Iris has done.

BTW, Skyfire just came out with 1.1 There were speed changes as well as Quicktime, Flash and Silverlite changes on their server end. SKyfire works great for me especially the fact that I can view youtube right on the browser. This is usefull when I get a link in e-mail.

I checked it out on the download it seems to be pretty speedy. I like it.
