Treo vs iPhone

I'm sure this has been said before, but I just left an Apple store where I played around with an iPhone. Yes, I confess, I've dabbled with the idea of getting one. They are increibly stylish. And the UI is quite slick. I really like the touch screen.

But I can't get past the virtual keyboard. Good heavens! I can't even believe how hard it is to type accurately on that thing! It really made me appreciate the wonderful tactile feel of my Treo.

Yeah, the Treo may not be as sexy, but it is a well built, utilitarian machine. I can't imagine switching now that I've tried the iPhone!

I too may look at one, once they switch to 3G, depending on how good their implementation of ActiveSync is. My 750 is treating me quite well right now though so I can't see spending that kinda money yet.

Is there anyway that the iPhone might be getting a qwerty keypad any time soon.

Yeah I suppose you're right. It would definitely warm me up to the idea of own one if they could add the keypad.

If Steve Jobs says you don't need a hardware keyboard then you can guarantee an iPhone with one will never be made. Bit like his statement about mices not needing more than one button

iphone vs. treo

I too was impressed with the iphone look and feel, though I don't view the lack of keyboard as a negative. I just got a 755 p because my 700p had some issues and Sprint decided it was easier to just replace it than deal with my problems. Any comments on how the 700 compares to the 755?

Being the user of both phones, I feel that 755P is snapier and a little faster. I don't have any resets unless I really mess with the phone, but as for everyday use, it runs just fine.

The way I think of a Palm, the more junk you put into it, the more likely it is to crash.

I would say that there are some things the could do to make it easier to use without moving to a hard keyboard.
1. They could make the keys bigger and use more than one character per key ala BB Pearl.
2. They could do some kind of Graffiti-ish thing, which would seem to work well with the overall gesture-based philosophy.

But no matter what they do in the future, the current situation is not even as good as a non-qwerty phone with T9, IMO.
