| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Need to sync email across the internet - help Ok, I am relatively new to the whole wonderful word of Treonautting. I have a 700p and am very honestly loving it. However, I am running into a technical challenge that I can not figure out. Maybe what I want to do is impossible; maybe you can help me. I have been happily POPing to my personal email address, and most of my communications go here. However, a small portion of my messages go to my work email address. At work, we are using Exchange and Outlook. I have created a rule in outlook to filter my personal messages from those for work; my messages are placed in their own folder. Now I would love to get these messages out to my treo, but can not figure out how. Unfortunately, our Exchange setup will not allow us to forward email by rule (so as to elimenate potential infinite loops). I could use goodlink to syncronize my whole mailbox, but this is not something I want to do. (I like to leave work at work when I leave AND I am not interesed in paying and going to the trouble of setting up that service, just for a few messages a day). Moreover, my email admins advise me that they are not running Exchange Sync (not that I understand what it is or how it works anyway). So here is what I have, as I understand it: * A PC running outlook that can not automatically forward messages * An otherwise unfiltered outbound internet connection (no port filtering) * A Treo 700p capable of getting out to the internet Is there a way to get certain emails from outlook (without forwarding by rule) out to my treo and/or a mail account that I could then POP down to the Treo? Is there a way to sync a specific outlook folder across the internet to the Treo? Or am I S.O.L? Last edited by bedowyn; 08-23-2006 at 08:08 PM. |

![]() ![]() | Intriguing... I love these sorts of problems.Few Questions: Are you allowed to install 3rd party add-ins to your work Outlook? You could try Mobile Email Redirect if you are. There's also a myriad of other options. The personal email you receive at work, are they sent to you work email address or do you just have Outlook collect personal mail for you as well as business mail? If it's the later, you can ask Outlook to leave the personal messages on the POP server after collecting them and collect them again via the Treo. If it's the former and you can't install add-ins, further thought is required. Don't worry, we'll find a way. Incidentally server admins worried about creating halls of mirrors with auto forwarding is understandable on the surface but ultimately a bit suspect to me. There must be solutions - they could embed a companyname_donotforward x-header in their outgoing forwards and if the messages gets forwarded back the headers will be present and they can ignore the subsquent second outbound forward request. Plus you have to be a crazy user to set up forward at both ends. It's auto-replies that should really give them a headache. ~ Steph Last edited by skoenig; 08-24-2006 at 02:01 AM. |
