Buy or not to Buy

Hey guys, I am deciding whether or not to get a new Treo. I really want to get a hand held devices that manages everything that Treo offers plus Wi-Fi. I've seen other products on the market with Wi-Fi but they are ridiculously overpriced. I hear rumors that Palm is about to go down and there OS is going to change to Linux based. I also hear that smartphones are going to be cheaper within the next couple of months. I am first time user so should I buy a Treo regardless or should I wait it out for a couple of months. Also Treo 650 or 680? Not too much of a difference besides antenna and memory. I can get 650 for cheap or should I opt for the 680? By the way, I have Cingular.

if you're wanting a treo that has wi-fi capability, do not buy a 650 or 680. wi-fi is not supported on either of these devices, much to our collective dismay. i read on engadget (i think) that the new 750v/w can use a mini-sd wi-fi card but it sticks out a bit. other than that, i'd get a 680. more memory, no antenna, and it's offered in colors other than that sickly silver. and i don't think cingular can drop the price for a new 680 much lower than free (with select contracts, of course).

Yep the Windows Mobile based Treo's, i.e. 700w/wx/750v support a SDIO/mini-SDIO Wi-Fi card. I've ordered one for my 750v so I'll tell you how well it works once I've got it

i just got a treo 650 friday, and it started acting funny the same night i got it, and its still not working right, in fact its really not working at all.... so either i got a messed up peice a hardware, or the 650 if just not good... so in my experience, i wouldn't recommend a 650

I think it's a little unfair to make a comment like that based purely on one sample. My 650 has been working perfectly since the day I got it but it would also be wrong for me to say, based on my one example, that Treo 650's are perfect and never go wrong

i bought a used 650 and ive had minimal problems with it. once every couple days i have to soft reboot because it freezes, that and the lack of battery life kinda blow, but besides that mines been solid.

i did save some cash by buying a used one off a friend. only crappy thing is that i cant insure it lol :\

Sometimes your home owners insurance will cover random things like that, so you might want to check it out.
