![]() | I have the same worries. In fact, you and I may work for the same company. I've also got a Treo 850, and I've noticed some suspicious behavior lately with it. It will be in "sleep mode" with the backlight off, and then suddenly "wake up" without my having touched it. This, according to web-cellphone security experts, is a top symptom of cellphone monitoring. What's happening is the "listener" is "calling in" on your phone without your knowledge. The eavesdropping software is designed specifically to not ring and enable them to listen in on you. The only way to prevent this is to remove your battery. Another telltale symptom is very specific: sometimes during a call you may notice a "tick, tick, tick..." kind of buzzing while on the phone. This is normal and tends to happen when changing to a different cell. But....if you notice a continual, uninterrupted buzzing while on a call, THAT is eavesdropping happening right then. I have heard both on my Treo Pro. Another symptom of eavedropping are random received text messages of random characters. That I have not seen. In response to other posters...you bet your ass a company will have at least tracking software on your phone -- if they have the time and guys to load it. One software package is called "Mologogo", but many others exist -- some designed specifically for corporate "needs" like you're concerned about. But each phone has an IP address and some software tracks the IP's location. Whether corporate eavedropping is legal or not, I don't know. BUT...I believe the company I work for IS doing this. To me, the surest indicator a company is eavesdropping on their workforce, and tracking locations et al...is the rest of their corporate behavior. If you say, "...is the company I work for a bunch of unethcal bastards?" If you answer YES...then they probably are eavesdropping by listening on your Treo. But don't be foolish enough to ask HR if they are "officially" eavesdropping...they'd fire you right away or find a way to fire you. |

![]() | So you are willing to give up your liberties to work for a company? How far would you go? I'm not saying that compromise could be done. If it is their equipment then fine, but when it was quiting time I'd grab my phone and leave theirs- if during my off hours they want to contact me they can pay to call my other phone.
