Thankful for Treonauts!!

I frequent several other Palm related forums and have always been convinced that Treonauts is the friendliest of them all. Well today, I went to one associated with a specific carrier (something I haven't done for months) and was reminded how clique-ish some forums can be. In just reading six threads, I found one where a longstanding member was chastising a newbie for asking a question, "that had been asked a million times before"and asking why they didn't use the search function. As if a newbie is going to know how to use the search function or even know that it exists. Second, I noticed that the mods there continue to be very clique-ish and arbitrary. One thread that was a day old, had already been closed, and the one reply the OP received, while helpful, was far from being comprehensive.

I see these kind of things on many of the other forums, but I again, just want to express my gratitude to the Treonauts staff, for being kind, helpful, fair, and maintaining a positive environment for everyone.

well, the search function is nice, but not everyone knows about it and it's not a big deal at all to reply if you can help. none of the mods here have any pretenses, there's no cliques and there's barely any chastising, if ever, on the forums for asking questions. after all, that's what the forum is for. we want to make this a place that folks feel welcome to ask the 'dumb' question now and then. we were all noobs once; do not make the mistake of thinking that just because someone has been here longer, that person has the right and/or privilege to run someone down for asking any question. thanks for the vote of confidence, stu!

spammers, on the other hand...

There are no cliques here, because it would not make sense the way it does on other sites. Other sites are populated by many types of people, and human beings have, historically, identified with a group having similar characteristics to their own, and so form cliques.
Treonauts are a separate specie, and therefore do not have regard one way or another for the cliques of human beings. We just help them. The way one might help cattle or sheep.

Pete,

Sometimes your avatar goes extremely well with your comments ; ) Very intelligent comments. I can picture Spock speaking them.

Thank you, Stu.
The avatar is there at the insistance of my wife, who occassionally feels the need to draw comparison between my conversational style and that of the fictional character's.
I relented only when she allowed me to place my 650 (it's in an Otterbox, and Resco Explorer is on the screen) in his right hand, and a Samuel Adams Boston Lager in the other, thereby lending at least a thin veil of reality to the avatar.

I agree. She's nearly impossible not to like. Honest to the core, and it took me three years to learn how to be in a relationship with her. She obviously has a lot of patience.
She occassionally points out her belief that I'm "too analytical".
I'm a cabinetmaker by trade, after flying for most of my productive life (I'm 49 years old, was a USAF F-4 pilot, then spent 13 years as a helicopter instructor-pilot). I've been working with wood most of my life (Dad was a woodworker). I have four grown sons, all of them US Army......two served in Iraq, my oldest is on his second tour as a combat medic.
"Too analytical"..........I believe that analysis mostly consists of common sense, and therefore, it does not make sense to state that it can be possessed in excess.
She is, however, a woman, and they are one of the most beautiful and unpredictable of Earth's inhabitants....
So, as long as one does not tie oneself to their proclivities and emotional states, and makes no attempt to control them, they can be a source of color and joy in an otherwise mathematical world.
A more direct response........yes, I agree, you would certainly like her.

You keep forgetting the "it's illogical Captain"

Stu, you are correct. That was one of the reasons I stayed with Treonauts. The mods and admins were very helpful. They made me feel like family and I stayed. Two years in Oct.

I believe that a person who would spend time (for example, comiken, your two years here) on this website would have to be a person of well-above-average intelligence.
I live in a middle-class section of San Diego County (Santee). However, San Diego County has many wealthy areas, including La Jolla, where I stopped to pay my T-Mobile bill on Thursday. At the kiosk (shared with Verizon), I met a woman who was moving from a 700-series to a Centro. I made a comment about the Treonauts site, and she proceeded to ask me a lot of questions about the Palm OS, stating that she had had her "old" phone for some years.
Bottom line.........I left with the feeling that many who own Treos or Centros use the phone and calendar apps, yet have no idea of the world of tasks that these devices are capable of. We ARE a family, made so by our common respect and gratitude for having such devices, and the wherewithall and community of people to use them to their capacities. We have these devices and the intelligence to employ them, and so we are here to share our knowledge.
Comiken, anything else would be illogical.
