I thought I would start an OS war here just to make this nforum more exciting.

I am using Ubuntu right now.

by the way I don't like vista.

i thought i would put the kibosh on any kind of war; let's make it a heated discussion at the very worst. anyway, xp is the os of choice around this house. i wouldn't use vista if bill gates gave me a personalized version of vista exponential or whatever it is (the maximum one offered, you knew what i meant). and for you mac users out there, don't start about how macs are impervious to everything because here's proof that they're not.

Personally, anything Linux without the MS tax (Xandros, Linspire, etc) is the best choice. The only thing worse than the MS tax is the Mac tax.

I have no qualms with using any OS. I may not be able to do as much on a Mac or Linux system, as I can on a Windows system since I use Windows primarily, but I can get around. I've installed all 3, different Linux distros, Windows from 95-Vista and Dos, and OS 9 and X up through 10.4. All have their good features, and all have their problems. I'm strongly considering a Mac for my next computer purchase, but I'll run either XP or Vista on it as well, and potentially a Linux distro as well. I have few problems with Vista, and you can hate me all you want for that

Interesting listening to the 'enjoyable' battles that continue over the OS ... which seems to even arise between flavors of Linux. I am an unfortunate Vista user on my 'workbook' computer, but have a backup XP and 2000 machine as an office desktop. My everyday favorite is currently Mac OS Tiger, and it sits next to a G4 Mac still running OS 9! I do have a spare PC with SUSE installed, but rarely boot it up -- I only have two hands!

I've been using Vista as my primary work computer since August 2007. This was not my choice. But oh well.

There are things I like about Vista. Honestly. The searching is really quite nice. There are some very good system management tools, such as the reliability monitor. And although it's completely unnecessary, I have to admit I like the Aero look and generally use it. There are some other nice things that are not well advertised.

But there has been a constant stream of reliability problems ever since I got it. I have the feeling that Dell shares a big piece of the culpability here. SP1 may help with this, but the jury's still out.

It also infuriated me that it took Palm so incredibly long to release a non-beta version of the desktop that would work on Vista. It is still lacking some important features, such as synching of Versamail.

I think Vista (and drivers) will continue to get better over time. In the end, I think history will show that Vista when it is most mature will be a better OS than XP at its most mature state. But that also depends on how you count better. As a user, I would rather move towards a more fixed version of Vista at this point than towards XP.

Having said that, I think my next computer will be a Mac.

I am using windows xp pro and while I like it very much I think its a losing battle railing against vista because its going to come whether we like it or not.
