I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm a very (surprisingly) happy Vista user. Runs clean, neat, quick, and stable on my laptop with 2gig of RAM.

I run Vista with a gig of RAM in a virtual machine on a Pentium D 3.2 GHz. I dedicate a gig out of my 2 to the VM. I have no issues with it, except I can't update my Symantec AV due to account restrictions, since I'm not a full on admin, so I get pop ups on that. We're testing it for compatibility in my office, so I won't be surprised if I'm running it full time by the end of this year. We have issues with other propriatary apps, but that's a story for anther day.

I would have considered Vista if it had support for FAT32. I ran all my Windows systems on a FAT32 file format as opposed to NTFS as it allowed me to access and the ability to move data easily across all platforms including Linux and DOS which is needed for my programming language.

NTFS is more resilient and supports larger paritions so I've used that from Windows 2000 onwards

Not really. Though partitioning FAT32 (in Disks larger than 32GB) is not allowed through Windows, there are many good partitioning utilities out there and most of them free that will allow you to do so even on Disks larger than 32GB.

There's a nice comparison chart here

FAT32 only supports share level security whereas NTFS had both share and file security.

While NTFS can be argued to be more secure over its predecessor, NT's security features root deep within the file system itself and cast doubts about the reliability and version-compatibility of third-party support. Also, FAT32 is much faster than NTFS for those who work with small files and who dont need large file support and need to move files across multiple platforms. Ultimately, I felt there is no right or wrong when it comes end-user preferences.

Crud5000 is on a distinguished road
I use the XP, but I am starting to warm up to the penguin and hope to never use Vista (maybe in a duel boot?).

However here's someone who put the different versions of Windows to a heated match!
Good read for the fun of it!
